Abstract: A new dual field search coil for pulse induction metal detectors has multiple coplanar wire coils of different diameters connected in series with the output of a pulse source, overcoming the loss of target size resolution associated with a single coil search loop. Small objects are sensed by an internal small coil and larger objects are sensed by the larger outside coil, and the overall depth of target sensing remains similar to that of a single coil construction. The smaller coil is isolated from the pulse source by the inductance of the larger coil and will ring at a frequency determined by its own parameters. To prevent the smaller coil from ringing, a second damping resistor is connected across the terminals of the smaller coil at the junction of the large and small coils making up the modified search loop.

Abstract: A tubing assembly is provided that can comprise a plurality of tubes or lumens that can be disposed within a head of a peristaltic pump. The tubing assembly can provide a flow rate or volume capacity that is generally equal to or greater than that achieved with a comparable prior art tube while operating at higher pressures than that possible using the prior art tube. Further, in accordance with some embodiments, the tubing assembly can achieve a longer working life than a comparable prior art tube, and the load on the pump motor can be reduced such that the pump life is increased and/or a larger pump motor is not required to achieve such advantageous results.
Abstract: A method of characterizing a biological sample comprising separating the biological sample into constituents; observing the separated constituents; applying statistical classification modeling to the observed constituents; deriving quantifiable data from the applied statistical classification modeling; and analyzing the data from the applied statistical classification modeling to assess a donor of the biological compounds' health.

Abstract: A system and method for configuring a water heater to drain condensate from combustion products is provided. The water heater comprises a water tank, a burner for producing combustion products, a flue extending through an interior of the water tank to receive the combustion products, and an exhaust passageway positioned downstream of the flue and extending outside of the water tank to exhaust the combustion products. The exhaust passageway includes a first portion and a second portion positioned at an elevation above the first portion. A bypass conduit is coupled to the exhaust passageway and positioned to direct condensate in the exhaust passageway from the second portion toward the first portion. A drain port is positioned at or an elevation below the first portion of the exhaust passageway to drain condensate from the exhaust passageway.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for managing a plurality of components. The system can comprise a first component having a first operational parameter and a second component having a second operational parameter. The operational parameters of the first and second components can be modified in response to signals regarding the other one of the first and second components. Further, a component of the system can operate with a delay period during which an operational parameter of the component does not change in response to an operational parameter of the other component, but after which the operational parameter of the other component can cause a change in the operational parameter of the component.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods for the treatment of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome by administration of a transdermally applied androgen composition. The treatment is both safe and effective for treating fibromyalgia-related pain and fatigue, as well as chronic fatigue syndrome.
Abstract: A bypass/flushing valve for a hydrostatic system includes a valve body including a central bore, a shuttle valve located in the central bore, and a valve spindle disposed within the central bore. The valve body includes four ports each in communication with the central bore. The shuttle valve blocks flow through the central bore between a first port and a second port. When pressure at the second port is higher than at the first port, the shuttle valve moves to allow flow passage between the first port and the third port. When pressure at the first port is higher than at the second port, the shuttle valve moves to allow flow passages between the second port and a third port. The spindle is movable between a first position to block communication between the second port and the fourth port and a second position to allow for communication between the second port and the fourth port.
Abstract: A hydraulic circuit includes a spring applied-pressure released brake, a hydraulic motor, and a control in fluid communication with the brake and the motor. The control is operative between a first position and a second position. When in the first position the brake receives pressure from a first brake pressure source. When in the second position the brake receives pressure from a second pressure source and the motor is short circuited in relation to a motor pressure source. The control can be automatically reset upon pressurization of the hydraulic circuit.
Abstract: A return to neutral mechanism includes a hub, a lever and a biasing member. The hub is configured to connect fast to a control rod of an associated hydraulic pump. The lever connects to the hub and includes a location configured to connect to an associated linkage that is connected to an associated steering mechanism. The biasing member connects to the lever for biasing the lever and the control rod toward a neutral position.
Abstract: A collector assembly is provided for directing products of combustion between segments of a flue of a water heater. The assembly includes an insulator at least partially defining a chamber configured to direct products of combustion between the flue segments. The assembly also includes a cover configured to at least partially surround the insulator. The cover is also configured to be coupled to a water tank of the water heater. The insulator in an uncompressed state is dimensioned to extend outwardly from the cover when the insulator is positioned in the cover. The insulator in a compressed state is dimensioned to permit coupling of the cover to the water tank.
Abstract: A method and device are described for controlling and/or attenuating aiming laser beam brightness in a hand held radiometer. The beam from the laser is directed at a target measurement surface and a transversely movable element member is interposed between the laser and the target to change the beam brightness on the target. In a preferred device a slidable or rotatable element intercepts the beam between the laser and target and a calibrated opening in the element of selected size and/or shape allows part of the beam to pass through the element to provide a safe brightness at the target.
Abstract: Compositions and methods for alleviating the symptoms associated with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia syndrome are provided. The compositions are based on use of a transdermal gel formulation delivery system for androgens, either alone or in combination with other hormones.
Abstract: A method for determining if a patient has a traumatic brain injury includes obtaining a body specimen from the patient, determining the concentration of marinobufagenin in the body specimen, comparing the concentration of marinobufagenin to the concentration in such body specimens in normal persons, and if the marinobufagenin concentration is substantially above the concentration of a normal person, concluding traumatic brain injury exists. In a preferred embodiment, a substantial elevation is deemed to be an increase of about 30 percent above the marinobufagenin concentration of a normal person. The body specimen may be blood or urine. If a substantial elevation is deemed to exist, the magnitude from the departure from the concentration of a normal person may be employed in determining the timing and nature of treatment provided to the patient. The method may be repeated at predetermined intervals to monitor changes in the marinobufagenin with time. Corresponding apparatus is provided.
