Patent number: 9225827Abstract: A directory server may proactively provide to a remote mobile phone (or similar device) recent contextual information associated with callers who are likely to call the remote mobile phone, such that the remote mobile phone is likely to have a local set of recent contextual data about a given caller when the caller places a call to the remote mobile phone (or visa versa). When an unknown caller calls the remote mobile phone, the directory server may use the caller's phone number to identify directory information and one or more social-network or similar accounts that are used as sources of contextual information about the caller.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2014Date of Patent: December 29, 2015Assignee: WhitePages, Inc.Inventors: Morgan Kennedy Belford, Devin Efraim Ben-Hur, Sebastian Beresniewicz, Owyn More Richen, Timothy John Satterfield

Patent number: 9185207Abstract: A caller information server provides caller identification (ID) information to a mobile device. The server receives caller ID information from local address books stored on multiple mobile devices. The caller information server aggregates the received caller ID information to generate a pooled address book. The caller information server may determine whether names within the caller ID information are legitimate and store or filter the information accordingly. When a mobile device receives a call from a telephone number for which it lacks caller ID information in its local address book, the mobile device sends a request for the caller ID information for the telephone number, to the caller information server. The server identifies caller ID information associated with the telephone number in the pooled address book, and sends this information to the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2014Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Assignee: WhitePages, Inc.Inventors: Jason Anthony Devitt, Michael Lloyd Wells

Patent number: 9031978Abstract: Location-based searches for venues for a mobile computing device. An application server system may determine search results in response to a search query, comprising a search location, received from the mobile computing device. The application server system determines, for each search query, whether the search location is within a threshold distance from a location of the mobile computing device. If within the threshold distance, the application server system transmits search result data comprising, for each example venue in the search results, a distance of the venue to the location of the mobile computing device. If not within the threshold distance, the application server system transmits search result data comprising, for each venue in the search results, a distance of the venue to the search location.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2012Date of Patent: May 12, 2015Assignee: Whitepages, Inc.Inventors: Sebastian Beresniewicz, Sanam Mehta, Vishal Modi, Bret Moore, Brent Newman, Owyn Richen, John Siu

Patent number: 8812029Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to systems and methods for checking in at a business with a mobile computing device. For example, the mobile computing device may receive via a data network, location information for a venue. The mobile computing device may also determine whether a location of the mobile computing device is available. Conditioned upon the location of the mobile computing device being available, the mobile computing device may determine whether the location of the mobile computing device is within a threshold distance of the venue. Conditioned upon the location of the mobile computing device being within the threshold distance of the venue, the mobile computing device may send a check-in message to a server. The check-in message may indicate that the user of the mobile computing device is at the venue.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2012Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Whitepages, Inc.Inventors: Yang Cao, Ryan Kazda, Sanam Mehta, Bret Moore, Owyn Richen, John Siu

Publication number: 20130066922Abstract: Technology is disclosed for providing contact management services. Contact information (e.g., phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.) are collected from multiple, different sources (e.g., a mobile phone, a web server, a social media web site, SMS, an App, etc.) Contact information can also be entered in a free-form format and parsed into structured data that is associated with a contact card. A contact card stores the contact information and the source of the information. Contact cards can be aggregated into a merged contact card that includes information from the multiple, different sources, without loosing the original information. The merged contact card can be disaggregated into its constituent contact cards and used to create other contact cards. A user can associate one or more of their contact cards with a group. The group is optionally notified when the users changes its contact information.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2012Publication date: March 14, 2013Applicant: WhitePages, Inc.Inventors: Myung Ryul Jang, Tim Miller, Michael Squires, Debbie Cargile
