Patents Assigned to Whiting Roll-Up Door Mfg. Corp.
  • Patent number: 5704663
Abstract: A self-tightening side lock (20) for a roll-up door includes a keeper (25) mounted on the jamb, and a latch member (26) pivotally mounted on a door panel. The latch member is selectively cooperable with a catch (30) to hold the door in a closed position. The latch member is biased to move in a counter-clockwise direction. The latch member is adapted to be moved in a clockwise direction, against the opposing bias or a spring 42, to an out-of-the-way position at which the displaced latch may pass by the catch. The latch member has a side cam surface (33) arranged to engage the catch (30) when the door is lowered and to cause the latch member to pivot in a clockwise direction toward the out-of-the-way position to allow the latch member to pass by the catch. The latch member also has an upper cam surface (34) arranged to engage the catch such that the counter-clockwise movement of the latch member will cause the door to be self-tightening.

  • Patent number: 5163531
Abstract: A ladder assembly is adapted to be mounted on a suitable support, such as a truck or trailer. The ladder assembly includes a ladder mounted on the distal end of a shaft. The shaft is slidably received in a cylinder. A pair of spaced abutment stops are provided on the support, and provide a recess to receive a portion of the ladder when the ladder is in its upright position. A spring urges the shaft and ladder to move toward the support along the axis (x--x) of the cylinder. The ladder is adapted to be moved between an upright position, at which a portion of the ladder is received in the recess between the abutment stops, and an out-of-the-way horizontal position.

  • Patent number: 5022691
Abstract: A side lock (20) for a roll-up door (21) mounted on a body includes a keeper (27) mounted on a jamb (23) adjacent an access opening (22). A hook member (28) is pivotally mounted on a panel (25) and is arranged to selectively engage a catch (59) mounted on the keeper. The hook member has an upper cam surface (76) and a concave surface (78). The hook member also has a lower cam surface (75) which is adapted to selectively engage the catch when the door is lowered to selectively displace the hook member against the opposing bias of a spring (91) to permit the tip (66) of the hook member to pass beneath the catch. The improved side lock is self-tightening.

  • Patent number: 4991639
Abstract: This invention provides two forms of improved guards for a roll-up door. The first form ( 58 or 59) is intended to prevent shifting cargo from intefering with becoming interlocked with the lowered door. This form has a vertically-elongated guard which is adapted to overlie the vertically-spaced hinges, and has opposite marginal end portions closely spaced to the knuckle portions of such hinges. This first form reduces the stepped configuration of prior art hinges, and therefore reduces the opportunity for shifting cargo to become interlocked with the door. The second form (111) is mounted on the door and track, and is designed to prevent shifting cargo from entering the space through which the door must pass as it its raised or lowered.

  • Patent number: 4957301
Abstract: A seal member (11) is adapted to seal the gap or space between a door panel (12) and frame (13) of a roll-up door assembly (10). The improved seal member includes a first portion (34) and a second portion (35). The first portion is mounted on the frame, and the second portion is biased to flexibly engage the outer surface of the door panel. The first portion is formed of a relatively-rigid vinyl, while the second portion is formed of a relatively-flexible vinyl, or may be in the form of a brush. The first portion has a raised abutment surface (42) arranged to engage the door panel, should the door panel move toward the frame, to prevent the second portion from becoming crushed between the first portion and the door. Thus, the second portion is protected from damage, and does not substantially impede vertical movement of the door. The first and second portions may be formed integrally or separately, as desired. In one form, the seal member first portion is adapted to be snapped into engagement with the frame.

  • Patent number: 4930561
Abstract: An improved joint construction (10) for a roll-up door includes specially-configured upper and lower panel sections (12, 11), a specially-configured hinge member (13) adapted to be longitudinally inserted into operative engagement wiht lower panel section, and a seal member (14) protectively concealed within a recess (73) in the upper panel section. The hinge member is coated with a low friction material to facilitate its longitudinal insertion into operative engagement with the lower panel section, and to facilitate relative movement of the adjacent panel sections. The lower panel section has an upwardly-extending lug (42) which is arranged to enter the recess in the upper panel section and compress the seal member when the adjacent panels are in vertically-aligned relation to one another.
