Publication number: 20090094884Abstract: A replaceable cartridge has a generally tubular sidewall constructed of a termite resistant material and an interior chamber. The sidewall has an upper end and an open lower end. An aggregation member is separate from the sidewall and positionable at least in part within the interior chamber of the sidewall generally adjacent the lower end thereof to at least in part close the lower end of the sidewall. The aggregation member is configured to define at least one opening through which termites enter the interior chamber of the sidewall through the lower end thereof. The aggregation member is constructed of a termite edible material. A bait matrix is separate from the aggregation member and disposed within the interior chamber of the sidewall intermediate the aggregation member and the upper end of the sidewall.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2008Publication date: April 16, 2009Applicant: WHITMIRE MICRO-GEN RESEARCH LABORATORIES, INC.Inventor: James H. Publication number: 20090000182Abstract: In a method of monitoring and/or controlling termite populations in an area accessible to the termites a wood that has been heat-treated to a temperature of greater than about 150 degrees C (302 degrees F) is located in the area and monitored. A toxic bait may also be located in the area. In another method, a toxic bait that contains a toxicant and wood that has been heat-treated to a temperature of at least about 150 degrees C (302 degrees F) may be located in the area.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Applicant: WHITMIRE MICRO-GEN RESEARCH LABORATORIES, INC.Inventor: James H. Publication number: 20090000181Abstract: In an above-ground termite station for detecting and controlling termites above ground in an operating configuration of the termite station, a container of the termite station defines an interior space and is at least in part configured for abutting against and being mounted on an above-ground mounting surface. The container is configurable between a closed configuration and an open configuration in which the interior space of the container is accessible while the container is mounted on the mounting surface. A cartridge is sized and configured for insertion in and removal from the interior space of the container and is generally an aggregation member, a bait matrix separate from the aggregation member, and a holder at least in part holding the aggregation member and bait matrix in assembly with the holder for positioning of the cartridge relative to the interior space of the container as a single unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Applicant: WHITMIRE MICRO-GEN RESEARCH LABORATORIES, INC.Inventor: James H. Publication number: 20080060480Abstract: A tool for removing a cap from a pest control device includes a hub and at least four fingers depending from the hub in circumferentially spaced relationship with each other to cooperatively define a socket for receiving the cap within the tool. The fingers are resiliently moveable transversely outward relative to the hub upon receiving the cap into the socket whereby the fingers are biased transversely inward against a sidewall of the cap when the cap is received in the socket. A plurality of stops extends from fewer than all of the fingers laterally inward of the socket. The stops are adapted for contacting a top of the cap upon receipt of the cap within the socket such that the fingers and stops cooperate to orient the tool on the cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2007Publication date: March 13, 2008Applicant: Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: James Cink, Jonathan Berger, Steven Sims, Lee White

Patent number: 7272993Abstract: A tool for removing a cap from a pest control device, such as a termite control device. The tool comprises fingers extending generally parallel to one another adapted for frictionally engaging a side edge of the cap. The fingers define a socket for receiving the cap. The socket is slightly smaller than the cap so that engagement of the fingers with the cap induces the fingers to move with respect to the cap to increase the size of the socket. Movement of the fingers induces frictional engagement of the fingers with the cap. Stops extending laterally inwardly in the socket from the fingers are adapted for engaging a top surface of the cap transverse to the side edge of the cap. The fingers and stops cooperate to orient the cap with respect to the tool. The tool may further comprise an extension extending from the tool for manipulating the tool from a remote location. The tool may otherwise include a handle for grasping the tool.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2002Date of Patent: September 25, 2007Assignee: Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Lee M. Publication number: 20070020229Abstract: A composition in compacted form for use for termite monitoring and control comprises a cellulose material which may be purified cellulose or micro-crystalline cellulose as a base bait, the composition being compacted to an optimum density of not less than approximately 1.033 g/cc. Also disclosed is a method for monitoring and controlling termite infestations which comprises the steps of a) preparing such a composition; b) placing the composition in a bait station; c) monitoring the station at periodic time intervals for termites; and d) upon observing termite infestation in the bait station, replacing the above composition with a bait composition containing a termite killing agent.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2006Publication date: January 25, 2007Applicant: Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Martin, Ronald Richardson
