  • Patent number: 8694011
Abstract: A method of managing communication in the wireless communication network having a plurality of Base Stations (BSs) is provided. Each BS provides communication to one or more Mobile Stations (MSs) in an associated cell. The method includes re-using at a BS, channel allocated to collocated BSs to communicate with MSs located in a first predetermined region in a cell of the BS. The method further includes scheduling MSs located in the first predetermined region based on the position of each MS relative to the BS. The MSs are scheduled using one or more of channels allocated to the collocated BSs and a native channel of the BS. Further, the method includes scheduling MSs located in a second predetermined region based on the position of each MS relative to the BS. The MSs in the second predetermined region are scheduled using the native channel of the BS.

  • Patent number: 8619799
Abstract: A network configuration capable of prioritizing and categorizing paging messages using a deep packet inspection (“DPI”) idle mode agent (“IMA”) is disclosed. Upon receiving downstream traffic addressing to end user (“EU”) equipment in a communication network, the process, in one embodiment, is able to identify forwarding action by comparing the downstream traffic with content of predefined list of a forwarding table. The downstream traffic is directed to an inline DPI agent or DPI IMA if the EU equipment is in idle mode in accordance with comparison between the downstream traffic and the forwarding table. The process categorizes the downstream traffic to a high priority paging category when the downstream traffic matches with one of legitimate push applications stored in a list of legitimate push applications.

  • Patent number: 8604978
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for positioning one or more anchor nodes or one or more non-anchor nodes in one or more communication networks. A non-anchor node may be in communication with two or more anchor nodes. The method comprises determining two or more distance measurements, corresponding to raw distances of the non-anchor node from the two or more anchor nodes, at predetermined intervals of time. An estimated distance is then calculated between the two or more anchor nodes based on the two or more distance measurements. Estimated distances between a plurality of anchor nodes in the one or more communication networks is calculated in a similar manner. A partial distance matrix is then populated using the estimated distance between the plurality of anchor nodes. A plurality of geographic coordinates of the plurality of anchor nodes is reconstructed based on the partial distance matrix.

  • Patent number: 8531945
Abstract: As part of mobility management messaging in current systems, only static quality of service (QoS) profiles and their statically configured classifiers are reported. These classifiers are known a priori and are typically used for hosted traffic. Once advanced application classifiers are matched and mobility messaging is done, the deep packet inspection (DPI) learned subscriber context is lost. An embodiment of the invention is configured to associate DPI-learned dynamic classifiers with the classifier's policy information as payload over mobility management messaging. The embodiment is useful for identifying protocols and applications, for authentication purposes, solving congestion-based issues between elements in a network, guaranteeing QoS without reserving resources statically, attaching traffic packets to a particular subscriber, and creating mobile signaling to provision end-to-end communication in a network.

  • Patent number: 8533360
Abstract: In current systems, a typical way to collect application statistics includes sending requests to a resource manager that can access the resource hardware via a device driver. Current systems require multiple synchronous transactions between the processes, which results in the systems consuming large amounts of central processing unit resources that lead to sub-optimal rates of information retrieval. A method and apparatus configured to use asynchronous messaging across all modules and to return hardware statistics directly from the hardware to an application process, thereby bypassing transactions between the application and the resource manager, and bypassing similar transactions between the resource manager and a device driver. Embodiments of the invention are provided for minimizing the power consumed by the memory and minimizing the amount of dedicated memory necessary to perform.

  • Patent number: 8520630
Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting a handover of a Mobile Station (MS) of a plurality of MSs to one or more target Base Stations (BSs) of a plurality of BSs in a wireless communication network. The method includes predicting a need for a handover of a MS to one or more target BSs selected from the plurality of BSs based on a handover threshold. The handover threshold is associated with a quality of a signal received by the MS. The method further includes transferring datapath associated with the MS to one or more of the one or more target BSs and one or more gateways prior to the handover of the MS. The one or more gateways are associated with one or more of a serving BS associated with the MS and the one or more target BSs. The plurality of BSs includes the serving BS.

  • Patent number: 8284715
Abstract: The disclosure proposes an adaptive resource allocation in a network. A resource is divided into Blocks and each base station is assigned a Block for its subscribers that are in the interference region, and another Block for its subscribers that are not in the interference region. Blocks other than these two are not used by the base station. Bordering base stations does not use the same Block if they have any subscribers in the shared interference region. The disclosure proposes a resource sizing along with load balancing scheme. The resource sizing is adaptable and may change over time according to topology.

  • Publication number: 20110185085
Abstract: A method and system for improved NAT operation enable efficient translation for packets destined for communication systems within a domain utilizing network addresses that are incompatible with source and destination addresses indicated in packets delivered from the global Internet. Since the addresses are not compatible with global Internet addresses, delivery cannot be accomplished except by some method of address translation. Traditional systems have not been constructed to enable such inbound translations, providing, instead, only communication outbound from the incompatibly addressed domain towards the global Internet. Embodiments may employ application-specific knowledge for peer-to-peer based applications, associated over time with specific destinations. Embodiments may further employ an application-specific state machine in the NAT function to trace the development of the application protocol so that the resource identifier can be observed.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is a method and corresponding system for improved network address translation (NAT) operation, to enable efficient translation for packets destined for communication systems within a domain utilizing network addresses that are incompatible with source and destination addresses indicated in packets delivered from the global Internet. Since the addresses are not compatible with global Internet addresses, delivery cannot be accomplished except by some method of address translation. Traditional systems have not been constructed to enable such inbound translations, providing, instead, only communication outbound from the incompatibly addressed domain towards the global Internet. The example embodiment employs history and pattern matching between observable characteristics of the inbound payload, associated over time with specific destinations.
