  • Patent number: 10982359
Abstract: A custom-fit sock is described. The sock includes a tubular body formed from a number of courses and wales. The tubular body includes a foot portion and a leg portion merging substantially at the ankle of a wearer. The foot portion defines a foot bottom portion and an upper instep portion and further includes a heel portion positioned adjacent the foot bottom portion at a first end of the foot portion and a toe portion positioned adjacent the foot bottom portion at a second end of the foot portion. A first course includes a first number of stitches formed using a first number of selected needles of the circular knitting machine. The first number of selected needles is less than a total number of needles of the circular knitting machine.

  • Patent number: 7076973
Abstract: There is provided a sock formed on a circular knitting machine. The sock has a tubular body including a cuff defining an opening to receive the foot of the wearer and includes a toe portion, a foot portion, a heel and a relatively narrow looped tab loop comprising a knit strip integrally knit onto the opening at the top of the tubular body and including opposed ends. The knit strip is folded intermediate the ends to provide a loop having inner and outer layers with open opposed sides, and the ends of the inner and outer layers of the looped tab and connecting the same to the cuff whereby the looped tab extends downwardly therefrom and is adapted to be disposed on the outside of the shoe. The sock knit strip comprises a plurality of knit courses of equal length having opposed selvage ends and the length of the knit courses forming the looped tab are preferably less than one-fourth the length around the opening.

  • Patent number: 6612136
Abstract: A sock of double layer knit construction formed on a circular knitting machine, including a tubular inner layer and a tubular outer layer surrounding the inner layer. The inner layer and the outer layer are connected together during the knitting thereof at spaced locations by a yarn extending between the layers. The connecting yarn is knit predominately in one of the layers and is knit into the other layer for connecting purposes only. The connecting yarn is knit into the other layer as tuck stitch loops.

  • Patent number: 5095548
Abstract: Moisture control characteristics are imparted to the sock of the present invention by body yarn knit in successive courses throughout the leg and foot. A hydrophobic yarn is knit in plated relationship with the body yarn in partial courses extending throughout the sole, and hydrophilic yarn is knit in plated relationship with the body yarn in partial courses extending throughout the instep whereby moisture generated by the foot of the wearer is wicked and transported from the sole and into the instep to be evaporated therefrom. Cut free ends extend from the endmost stitch loops in wales along the juncture of the sole and the instep while cut free ends of the hydrophilic yarn extend from endmost stitch loops in wales along the juncture of the sole and instep so that the endmost stitch loops at opposite ends of the partial courses of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic yarns are formed in adjacent wales and are not knit in plated relationship with each other in the same courses.

  • Patent number: 4571959
Abstract: The integrally knit earflaps are fashioned during the knitting operation and extend downwardly below the opposite side portions of the lower edge of the upper band of the cap. The crown of the cap is formed of single-ply fabric while the lower band, earflaps and selvage band are knit of two-ply fabric. The inner ply of the lower band and the earflaps are knit of a hydrophobic yarn while the remainder of the cap is knit of a hydrophilic yarn to aid in wicking moisture from the forehead and ears of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4397161
Abstract: Elastomeric yarn is incorporated in regularly repeated certain courses throughout the leg and foot portion of the sock. The certain courses in which the elastomeric yarn is incorporated in the foot portion are closer together than the certain courses in which the elastomeric yarn is incorporated in the leg portion so that the density of elastomeric yarn is greater in the foot portion than the density of the elastomeric yarn in the leg portion. The greater density of elastomeric yarn in the foot portion provides a snug fit, provides greater compressive support in the foot portion than in the leg portion, and aids in the stimulation of blood flow from the foot and up the leg of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 3995322
Abstract: This sock is particularly adapted for use with ski boots and the like and the leg portion is provided with terry loops extending inwardly of the inner surface to provide additional fabric thickness for cushioning the leg of the wearer against chafing by the top and upper edge of the ski boot. The sock is provided with an upper cuff portion of rib knit fabric with elastic yarn incorporated in the upper portion thereof to draw the upper end of the sock inwardly when the sock is relaxed and to aid in maintaining the upper edge of the sock in snug engagement with the leg of the wearer. Color bands are provided at the upper and lower ends of the leg portion to aid in defining the area of the leg portion in which the terry loops are formed.
