Publication number: 20040005944Abstract: A package of racquet string includes a continuous piece of string which is divided into first and second portions. The first portion of string has a length which is sufficient to string one-half of the main strings of a game racquet. The second portion of string has a length which is sufficient to string the remainder of the main strings and all of the cross strings of the racquet.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 2, 2002Publication date: January 8, 2004Applicant: Wilson Sporting Goods, Inc.Inventors: Po-Jen Cheng, John B. Lyons

Publication number: 20030069097Abstract: A football is provided with a thinner cover than conventional footballs. The thickness of the cover is less than 1.25 mm. The cover is formed from four cover panels. Each cover panel is stitched to a liner panel to form four panel assemblies. The liner panels are stronger and more resistant to bending than conventional liner panels. The panel assemblies are stitched together to form the seams of the football. An inflatable bladder is inserted inside of the attached panel assemblies. The liner panels withstand most of the forces on the football which are created by the internal bladder pressure and by impacts. The relatively thin cover panels are not required to support significant loads.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2001Publication date: April 10, 2003Applicant: Wilson Sporting Goods, Inc.Inventors: Douglas G. Guenther, Bradley L. Gaff

Publication number: 20030045372Abstract: A putter head including a toe portion, a heel portion, a generally vertically extending wall and an insert. The wall has a front strike face, a rear surface, an upper layer, and a lower layer. The upper layer, the lower layer and the rear surface each extend from the heel portion to the toe portion to define a recess rearwardly extending into the wall from the strike face. The rear surface of the wall is formed with variable thickness thereby providing the recess with a variable rearward depth. The insert substantially fills the recess and connects to the wall. The insert has a front surface, a top surface, a bottom surface and a rear surface. The front surface is exposed, while the top and bottom surfaces are substantially covered by the wall.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2001Publication date: March 6, 2003Applicant: Wilson Sporting Goods, Inc.Inventor: Michael D. Vrska

Publication number: 20030045382Abstract: A game ball including a casing and a lacing. The casing has a laced region. The lacing is coupled to the laced region of the casing. The lacing has an exposed surface comprised of an outer material that is compressible, resilient, and tactile. The outer material has a modulus of elasticity of between 14 and 170 kg/cm2 and a tensile strength between 100 and 650 kg/cm2. At least a portion of the lacing can have an exposed pebbled surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2001Publication date: March 6, 2003Applicant: Wilson Sporting Goods, Inc.Inventors: Kevin J. Murphy, Douglas G. Guenther

Publication number: 20030022729Abstract: A golf club vibration dampening and sound attenuation system including an elongated shaft, a club head, a resilient insert assembly, a dampener, and a grip. The shaft has a distal shaft end and a proximal shaft end. The club head is coupled to the distal shaft end, and includes a front wall and a sole portion. The front wall has a rearwardly sloped front strike side and a rear side. The sole portion rearwardly extends from a lower region of the rear side. The rear side and the sole portion define a cavity and a recess. The recess downwardly extends into the sole portion. A resilient insert assembly is positioned in and substantially fills the recess. The insert assembly is coupled to one or both of the sole portion and the lower region. The dampener is disposed within the shaft and has at least one annular radially extending projection.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2001Publication date: January 30, 2003Applicant: Wilson Sporting Goods, Inc.Inventors: Jon C. Pergande, Jeffrey D. Sheets, Frank Garrett, Richard P. Hulock, Mark W. Lin

Publication number: 20020091025Abstract: A sports ball includes an inflatable bladder, a plurality of first and second lining sheets, and a cover. The first lining sheets substantially cover the bladder to form a first lining. At least a portion of one first lining sheet overlaps at least a portion of another first lining sheet to define a first overlapped region. The first lining includes at least one first overlapped region. The second lining sheets substantially surround the first lining to form a second lining. At least a portion of one second lining sheet overlaps at least a portion of another sheet lining sheet to define a second overlapped region. The second lining includes at least one second overlapped region. The second lining is shifted with respect to the first lining to minimize overlapping of the first and second overlapped regions. The cover is coupled to and substantially surrounding the second lining.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2002Publication date: July 11, 2002Applicant: Wilson Sporting Goods, Inc.Inventors: Douglas G. Guenther, Bradley L. Gaff
