Abstract: A woodworker's vise that includes a fixed jaw adapted to be mounted to a workbench or the like and a moveable jaw assembly adapted to move with respect to the fixed jaw. The moveable jaw assembly includes an inner jaw, a front support and preferably a pin mounting the inner jaw to the front support in a manner that permits the inner jaw to pivot and to slide vertically relative to the front support. The woodworker's vise also includes a rapid-acting nut assembly disposed about the spindle that includes a pair of cam surfaces for causing engagement and disengagement of the assembly and the spindle.
Abstract: A rapid acting C-clamp is provided. A housing in the base of the C-clamp has a generally semi-cylindrical wall and an internal arcuate rib therein. The C-clamp has a threaded spindle extending through the housing, and a nut member in the housing is provided with a threadless bore through which the spindle extends for rapid advancement. The nut member also has a partially offset and partially threaded bore which is selectively engageable with the threaded spindle for threaded advancement of the spindle. The external surface of the nut is comprised of two semi-cylindrical portions overlapping so as to provide definite lines of demarcation between the portions. A friction member in the nut is resiliently pressed against the threads of the spindle to cause the nut to turn with the spindle in either direction.
Abstract: A vise construction is formed by a fixed body which is to be mounted to a support surface. The fixed body has a slide passage formed therein to receive a guide member or chill bar and a threaded passage is also formed therein to receive the clamping screw. A movable body is mounted to the fixed body and the clamping screw passes therethrough and threadedly engages the threaded passage of the fixed body to effect movement of a pair of gripping jaws formed on the respective bodies toward and away from one another. A recess is formed in the movable body in a location diametrically opposed and in alignment with the slide passage of the fixed body. The chill bar has one edge thereof fashioned to be inserted into the recess and locking means are provided to secure the chill bar and the movable body together as a single unit.
