Patent number: 6084210Abstract: A hair curler set for heating a plurality of hair curling rollers includes an electric heater assembly. The set includes a housing having a rotatable shaft mounted therewithin. The longitudinal axis of the rotatable shaft is disposed substantially horizontally. The heater assembly comprises a generally circular disc and is mounted on the rotatable shaft at substantially the longitudinal mid-point thereof. A pair of mounting members are spaced at either end of the shaft. Each mounting member has a surface facing towards an opposed surface of the heater assembly. A plurality of rollers are mounted between the opposed surfaces of the mounting members and the heater assembly in a generally circular array.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1999Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Windmere CorporationInventor: Dov Z. Patent number: 6082302Abstract: A self-cleaning litter box for cats employs a comb drive to drive a comb through litter to remove waste from the litter. A sensor for detecting the presence of an obstruction is coupled to the comb drive and stops the comb drive upon detecting an obstruction. A manual mode selector switch and an actuating switch are provided to manually activate the cleaning of the litter box at a time deemed appropriate by the cat owner. A foot pedal unit may be provided for semi-automatic use. A removable tray for cat litter may be provided. The tray may be disposable. A pivotable ramp facilitates ingress to, and egress from, the litter box. The ramp may be carpeted. A tray receives the litter box and a hood encloses the litter box to provide privacy.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1998Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Windmere CorporationInventors: Arnold Thaler, Philip Y. Patent number: 5852279Abstract: A clothes iron comprises an automatic shut off system that is controlled by multiple switches. A first switch located on the iron's handle is closed when the iron is held by a user. A second switch located on the iron's heel is closed when the iron stands in the upright position. The switch on the handle prevents the automatic shut off from functioning when the iron is in use. The switch on the heel determines which of two fixed timing periods are used.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1996Date of Patent: December 22, 1998Assignee: Windmere CorporationInventors: Chi Kin Mak, Ka Hong Wo, Wai Man Yeung

Patent number: 5727331Abstract: A hair dryer including more than one switch to control air flow rate and/or temperature. The switches are located on different portions of the hair dryer, allowing the user to select air flow rate and/or temperature when gripping the dryer in different ways. In one aspect, a switch is mounted like a trigger on a pistol-shaped hair dryer. A collar located entirely around the hair dryer's barrel mechanically links this trigger switch to a lever positioned on the barrel. When the lever on the barrel is squeezed or pulled, the collar rotates around a pivot to activate the trigger. This collar arrangement thus provides a second switch to control the air flow rate and/or temperature of the dryer.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1996Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Assignee: Windmere CorporationInventors: Arnold Thaler, Tung-hoi Ng

Patent number: 5160831Abstract: A time-based electrical appliance multi-mode control circuit and indicator arrangement which is connected to a power supply and an on and off switch. Upon turning the switch on, power is simultaneously supplied to the electrical appliance load and to a dual timer circuit. A first timer in the circuit is immediately energized causing a first indicator to represent an on state to the user. After a predetermined length of time, the first timer causes one output to go low, turning off the on state indicator and respectively turning on a ready state indicator. A second timer is then activated for a second predetermined period. At the end of the second period, the ready state indicator is turned off and the standby state indicator is turned on. At the same time, a triac connected to the electrical appliance load is turned off causing the power to the load to be automatically switched off.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1988Date of Patent: November 3, 1992Assignee: Windmere CorporationInventors: Arnold Thaler, Ivan Saud, P. Patent number: 4974613Abstract: A hair curling roller having an oval-shaped, elongated body with two rounded ends and a U-shaped clip attached to an annular pivotal housing embedded through one rounded end of the body. The opposite end of the U-shaped clip has an enlarged spherical tip adapted to slide over a groove which extends through the rounded end of the oval-shaped body. As the sperical tip slides over the groove, the clip is pulled towards the oval-shaped body, securing any hair wound around the roller. In an alternate embodiment the traverse cross-section of the body is circular in shape and the clip is rotatably secured to the body by a ball and socket.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1989Date of Patent: December 4, 1990Assignee: Windmere CorporationInventor: Elizabeth Ho
