  • Patent number: 5101726
Abstract: An impression cylinder provided with a replaceable sleevelike impression cylinder shell is movably and releasably mounted in a printing press by a bearing in such a manner that the impression cylinder adjacent to its one stub shaft is adapted to protrude freely from the machine frame and permit replacement of the impression cylinder shell. In order to permit a particularly simple replacement of the impression cylinder shell, the bearings are hinged bearings having bearing shell sections which can be swung off to a position in which they permit the impression cylinder to be swung out in a horizontal plane. The impression cylinder is provided at one end with a stub shaft, which extends beyond the associated hinged bearing and which at the top of its end portion is supportedd by a supporting shell section, which is axially immovably mounted in the machine frame for rotation about a vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 5086986
Abstract: An apparatus for severing a web at a reversing winder comprises a cutter bar provided with a cutter blade and a roller engageable with a currently empty core tube in the winder. It is desired to provide such an apparatus which can be used in conjunction with core tubes having different diameters. This is accomplished by mounting the cutter bar carrying the cutter blade and the roller in such a manner on a traversing frame, which is movable relative to the core tubes, that the position of the cutter bar and of the roller relative to the core tubes is adjustable by a movement of the traversing frame.

  • Patent number: 5085111
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for stacking flat articles, such as double bags, which have been severed by hot-wire welding from a continuous tubular or semitubular plastic film and have opening-defining edges adjacent to their center lines. The bags are delivered by a transfer apparatus, called a wicketer. The wicketer has feeding arms, which are secured to a shaft and rotate about a horizontal axis and which are arranged in pairs in a starlike array. The bags are needled adjacent to their longitudinal center line on a holding plate, which is provided in a stacking station and carries upstanding stacking pins or needles, so that stacks are formed. Two radial holding plates are rotatably mounted on the shaft or axle and are connected to separate respective drives for pivotally moving the holding plates to a stacking position for receiving the articles.

  • Patent number: 5076754
Abstract: An apparatus for forming stacks from consecutively fed, flat workpieces, preferably bags, comprises a ram, which is movable up and down and serves to force the workpieces from a plane of conveyance onto a stacking plate or onto a stack formed on said stacking plate. The stacking plate is adapted to be lifted and to be lowered to an extent depending on the increasing height of the stack. In order to ensure that the ram will exert an approximately constant force on each workpiece as it is stacked, the stacking plate is adapted to be lowered against the action of a force exerted by a brake.

  • Patent number: 5057180
Abstract: An apparatus for feeding a preferably multi-ply web of synthetic thermoplastics comprises a pair of feed rolls, which define a feeding nip and each of which is formed with annular grooves, and two scraping rakes, which are secured in the frame and have tines extending through the annular grooves, wherein at least one of said rakes is movably mounted and arranged to actuate a switch for stopping the drive for the rolls when the scraping rake is moved out of its normal position by the web because it is bulged. It is intended so to improve such an apparatus that the switch will be operated even by relatively small bulges formed in the web. That object is accomplished in that each scraping rake is guided to be movable in the direction of travel of the web. A scraping rake for actuating the switch can be moved by a much weaker force if the rake is displaced in the direction of travel of the web rather than being pivotally moved.

  • Patent number: 5054763
Abstract: An apparatus for dividing a continuously conveyed stream of shingled workpieces, such as bags or sacks, into leading and trailing parts has two consecutive endless belt conveyors. The downstream second belt conveyor is driven, during a dividing operation, at a higher velocity than the first upstream conveyor in order to pull the shingled stream apart. After the stream has been divided into the leading and trailing parts the second conveyor is driven at the same velocity as the first conveyor. To provide separation of the stream into parts consisting of an exactly predetermined number of workpieces, an intermediate endless belt conveyor is provided, which extends parallel to the trailing portion of the second belt conveyor and during the dividing operation revolves at a lower velocity than the second belt conveyor. The intermediate conveyor is provided with cams for arresting the leading workpiece of the trailing part of the shingled stream, against an upper pressure belt.

  • Patent number: 5002522
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling machines for making bags or sacks severed by welding from continuous tubular or semitubular films of synthetic thermoplastics has at least one pair of pinch rollers for feeding the continuous film. The pinch rollers are driven via a transmission by a first motor. A pair of welding jaws provides the continuous film with seam welds, transverse seam welds or severed transverse seam welds. A second motor actuates the welding jaws via a drive mechanism. A central processing unit controls the motors in such a manner that the motor for the pair of welding jaws is energized at a time when the motor for driving the pair of pinch rollers is still driving the pinch rollers, and after a standstill phase of the motor for driving the pair of pinch rollers the latter motor is energized even before the motor for driving the pair of welding jaws has stopped.

  • Patent number: 4984728
Abstract: In a dual belt conveyor for multi-ply continuous paper tubing having upper and lower endless conveyor belts between which the tubing is fed, turning point pulleys and backing rollers for the respective conveyor belts are longitudinally offset so that the tubing is moved through the conveyor along an undulating path. The inlet turning point pulley for the upper conveyor belt is positioned in front of the equivalent pulley for the lower conveyor belt so that the upper belt will contact the incoming tubing before the lower belt. A brake plate is provided under the inlet pulley of the upper belt over which plate the tubing is fed. The arrangement avoids the formation of undesirable waves and wrinkles in the tubing.
