  • Patent number: 5487245
Abstract: A door/window construction in which a unitary sheet of light transmissive material such as transparent or translucent glass or plastic is covered with masking material and provided with a plurality of small holes spaced apart at predetermined intervals. Fasteners are inserted in the holes and project outwardly to engage corresponding recesses in muntins that are thereby positioned and fastened on the sheet so as to give the appearance of a multi-panelled door/window. Fastening staples are provided to hold exposed portions of the muntins in place when stiles and rails of the doors/windows are attached. Also included is the method of manufacture and assembly of the doors/windows.

  • Patent number: 4403649
Abstract: A face-and-bypass heating coil has features which allow the device to be mounted either horizontally or vertically without loss of mechanical or thermal efficiency. The invention includes a frame comprising a pair of side panels which support the working mechanism, and upper and lower panels. A plurality of fixed partitions are attached between the upper and lower panels. A plurality of movable dampers are mounted on shafts and supported by linear ball bearings such that the movable dampers may selectively mate with the fixed partitions. A crank linkage is used to drive the movable dampers into and away from the fixed partitions. The elastic U-shaped structure of the movable dampers resiliently mates with the fixed partitions so as to form a substantially leak-proof seal around the heating tubes.

  • Patent number: 4361620
Abstract: Total heat energy exchange medium incorporated in an energy exchange device for transferring heat and moisture between two airstreams in an air supply system. The exchange medium is aluminum having a coating of hydrated calcium and aluminum oxides or hydroxides to render its heat transfer surfaces capable of exchanging latent as well as sensible heat energy. The coating is formed by exposing precleaned aluminum to a heated, preferably boiling solution of water-soluble calcium and aluminum compounds, preferably equal parts of hydrated calcium nitrate and hydrated aluminum nitrate, the pH of the solution having been brought to the range of from about 7 to 11, preferably pH=8 to 9, by adding sodium hydroxide which produces in the solution a mixed gelatinous precipitate of hydrated calcium and aluminum oxides and hydroxides.

  • Patent number: 4191241
Abstract: An energy exchange wheel having a wrapping hub which surrounds, and is concentric with but spaced from a central hub; an axially perforate matrix of energy exchange material around the wrapping hub; and a rim around the matrix. The axial dimensions of the central hub and the matrix correspond to the wheel depth, the axial dimension of the wrapping hub is between one-quarter and one-half of the wheel depth, and the axial dimension of the rim is at least equal to the axial dimension of the wrapping hub but less than the wheel depth. Tilted bar-like spokes secured to the central and wrapping hubs and to the rim prevent axial movement of the matrix.

  • Patent number: 4093435
Abstract: Rotary regenerative total heat energy exchanger having an asbestos-free heat exchange media formed by spirally winding flat and corrugated webs of aluminum foil and/or fully bleached, 45 lb. Kraft paper constituted by 84% fibres and 16% salts. The contained salts are 90% ammonium sulfide and 10% diammonium phosphate. Wheel thickness for efficient transfer of both sensible heat and latent heat with minimal air pressure drop across the wheel is a multiple of from 100 to 400, preferably 125 to 200, times the flute height of the corrugation web of the media. Although media may be substantially all-paper, preferred embodiments provide media having both a flat web and a corrugated web of aluminum foil, a pair of paper webs being disposed respectively on the opposite surfaces of either the flat foil web or the corrugated foil web.
