  • Patent number: 4709606
Abstract: A plant for the production of stacks of intermeshed blanks of paper, cellse or the like folded together in a zig-zag fashion, in which two supply rolls are associated with the plant. Material webs on the rolls correspond to a multiple of two, four, or six or a higher even-numbered multiple of the width of the individual blanks. Longitudinal cutting stations divide the material webs into partial webs. The partial webs are opposite each other and run toward each other in the longitudinal direction of the webs and are fed to a stack-producing unit from two opposing sides. The stack-producing units of partial webs adjacent to each other are arranged in displaced relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4674258
Abstract: A method and apparatus for inserting insert items into an enclosure, the ert items being selectively compiled by data coding. At the insertion station of the apparatus the insertion items are inserted without reduction in speed by top belts and bottom belts, past lateral insertion guides which are pivoted into the inside edges of the enclosure, directly into the enclosure which is aligned by means of movable cams operated in timed relation to the apparatus and which is opened by top and bottom vacuum devices. The filled enclosure is then conveyed by a segmental roller such that the insertion items retain their speed throughout the insertion operation and do not stop.

  • Patent number: 4598441
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for the manufacture of absorption pads for sorbing body fluid which is composed of two substantially identical so-called flake applicators each including a vacuum cylinder having shaped recesses which are so-called flake wheels. A first component layer of the absorption pad is produced on the first flake wheel and a second component layer is produced on the second flake wheel. The component layers produced on the first flake wheel are applied to the component layers produced on the second flake wheel by means of a transfer roll. A second transfer roll lifts the finished absorption pad from the second flake wheel and delivers the absorption pad by means of a vacuum belt to a machine for further processing.

  • Patent number: 4583412
Abstract: A variable-velocity drive is provided which serves to so control the periral velocity of a window cutter roller in an envelope machine working from the reel that, irrespective of the developed length of such roller, the velocity of the window cutter is the same as that of the paper web for the time that such cutter is operative on such web. To this end, the variable-velocity drive is basically devised from a number of universal joints interconnecting shafts whose axes intersect one another at an angle of up to approximately 45.degree.; the universal joints are so offset from one another in rotation that the variations or irregularities arising in the discrete joints are superimposed upon one another so as to have an amplifying effect. Since any one such universal joint arrangement passes through two velocity maxima and two velocity minima per revolution, gearing is provided on the input and output side to make the universal joint arrangement run at half the cycle speed.

  • Patent number: RE32128
Abstract: There is disclosed transport apparatus for transporting flexible sheet-like rticles, especially envelopes. The apparatus comprises a transport cylinder, which is mounted on a shaft rotatably journalled in a frame and which comprises two cylindrical body portions. The body portions are each provided with axial suction ducts with outlet openings communicating with the circumferential surfaces of the body portions. The body portions are provided at their mutually remote ends with bores into which project bushes, which are mounted to the frame to be secure against rotation. A suction device is connected in a certain rotational position of the cylinder, through passages which are provided in the bushes and open at the circumferential surfaces of the bushes, with the suction ducts of the cylinder body portions. In another rotational position of the cylinder, the suction ducts of the body portions are ventilated by the bushes. The apparatus is capable of high operating speeds with minimum noise production.
