Publication number: 20040155685Abstract: Systems and methods for providing frequency compensation over a wide range of frequency drift are shown. The preferred embodiment utilizes a sweep mode function to provide frequency compensation over a range of frequency drift broader than the frequency drift accommodated by a phase lock loop, without increasing the noise characteristics of the phase lock loop. Accordingly, the preferred embodiment operates in a phase lock loop mode while frequency drift can be compensated for by the lock range of the phase lock loop circuitry. The preferred embodiment operates in sweep mode to step through a range of offset frequencies to position the phase lock loop mode where frequency drift can be compensated for by the lock range of phase lock loop circuitry. Additionally, a preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a drift mode in order to monitor frequency offset information, such as may be used in performing sweep mode functions and/or other control or management functions.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2004Publication date: August 12, 2004Applicant: Harris Broadband Wireless Access, Inc.Inventor: James E. Patent number: 6681122Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for selectively enabling and disabling transmit and receive functions of a radio, and more particularly to a system and method utilizing an out-of-band signal over a time division duplex channel to control transmit and receive functions of a radio so as to synchronize with the functions of a remote modem. The invention relates to a system and method for synchronizing the transmit and receive modes of a radio via an out of band signal. The out of band signal is preferably a control tone at a predetermined frequency and is substantially coextensive with the communication signal to be transmitted. The radio filters a multiplexed signal and detects if the control tone is present. If the control tone is not detected, the radio preferably remains in the default receive mode. If the control tone is detected, the radio operates in the transmit mode for the duration of the control signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Harris Broadband Wireless Access, Inc.Inventor: Glen A. Patent number: 6643277Abstract: The inventive cellular reuse plan uses a tessellating grouping of cells to form a pattern, which is then repeated to form a larger cell cluster. The mosaic pattern uses several different cell types. Each cell type preferably comprises a different set of channel assignments. The channels are preferably provided additional orthogonality, such as through the use of polarization, where channel assignments within a cell are grouped to provide adjacent sectors, as a block, with primary communication links using commonly polarized channels. The different cell types are then arranged in the mosaic pattern. Each particular cell in the pattern has adjoining cells that are of a different type than the particular cell. The most preferred embodiment cell pattern does not utilize all available channels to thereby provide reserve channels for use in providing redundant links and/or added capacity.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: Harris Broadband Wireless Access, Inc.Inventors: G. Patent number: 6597668Abstract: Systems and methods for efficiently utilizing spectrum in a time division duplex system are shown. In the preferred embodiment fractions of a time division duplex frame are asymmetrically adjusted as forward and reverse channels according to communication demands/requests. Particular groups of resources for which independent asynchronous operation would result in undesired consequences are preferably operated in lockstep to thereby avoid the undesired consequences. Accordingly, a most preferred embodiment of the present invention provides for lockstep asymmetric adaptive time division duplexing among multiple carriers of a hub and multiple node wireless communication system.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2000Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: Harris Broadband Wireless Access, Inc.Inventors: David C. Patent number: 6577869Abstract: The inventive cellular reuse plan uses a tessellating grouping of cells to form a pattern, which is then repeated to form a larger cell cluster. The invention uses a uniformly rotated set of identical or substantially identical cell assignments within a mosaic repeat pattern. The mosaic pattern uses several different cell types. Each cell type comprises a different set of frequency assignments. The different cell types are then arranged in the mosaic pattern. The cells may be represented as shapes in the pattern, e.g. hexagonal or square shapes. Each particular cell in the pattern has adjoining cells that are of a different type than the particular cell. Adjacent cells of the same type have their sector channel assignments rotated with respect to each other such that the common channels are not parallel with respect to each other.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2000Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Harris Broadband Wireless Access, Inc.Inventor: G. Patent number: 6472748Abstract: A system and method for maintaining desired circuit component attributes is shown. According to a preferred embodiment, a high frequency circuit component, such as a MMIC, is retained in a circuit using a degradeable material, such as silver filled epoxy, wherein a portion of the degradeable material remains exposed. A protective coating of resin is applied to the exposed portion of the degradeable material by preferably depositing a predetermined amount of protective material, such as an epoxy resin, a void near the exposed portion of the degradeable material. The protective material preferably migrates to fully cover the exposed portion of the degradeable material without covering the circuit component. Accordingly, the circuit component is protected from substantial changes in operation characteristics due to the protective material and likewise is protected from changes in operation characteristics due to degradation of the degradeable material resulting from exposure.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Harris Broadband Wireless Access, Inc.Inventor: Carl Edward Calvert
