  • Publication number: 20120189073
Abstract: An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) communication system comprises OFDM transmitters and an OFDM receiver. The system comprises a subcarrier status data controller for transmitting subcarrier status data to the OFDM receiver. The subcarrier status data indicates the active subcarriers of the OFDM transmitters. The OFDM receiver comprises a receiver which receives a signal comprising a desired signal component from a first OFDM transmitter and interference from at least one interfering OFDM transmitter. The OFDM receiver further comprises a subcarrier status processor which receives the subcarrier status data and a channel estimator which determines channel estimates for at least an air interface communication channel from the first OFDM transmitter and an air interface communication channel from the interfering OFDM transmitter. An interference mitigation processor performs interference mitigation of the interference in response to the subcarrier status data and the channel estimates.

  • Publication number: 20120113911
Abstract: An apparatus for use in allocating resource in a wireless communication system employing transfer communication protocol (TCP) based data transfer between a network and a wireless subscriber communication unit comprises a scheduler (428) located in the network, wherein the scheduler buffers a TCP data segment for downlink (DL) transmission. A transmitter is arranged to transmit the buffered TCP data segment to the UE; wherein the message indicates an allocation of DL resources plus sufficient uplink resources to transfer a stand-alone ACK data segment (530). In this manner, for example in large bulk data transfer cases, a reduced latency may be achieved that may lead to improved throughput, due to the fact that the overall throughput may be limited by the window size (i.e. number of unacknowledged segments) rather than the throughput possible across the air interface.

  • Publication number: 20120099529
Abstract: An arrangement and method for session control in a wireless UMTS radio access network (100) by performing creation and deletion of application-specific packet sessions (PDP contexts) in the network, with application-specific QoS parameters, without requiring the explicit cooperation of the application software (either via software API or modem AT command). This allows session set-up and tear-down control of dedicated packet sessions for particular data services, in a UMTS 3G mobile wireless network, with application-specific QoS parameters, with umodified applications operating over the network.

  • Patent number: 8160164
Abstract: A method is provided for estimating at least one offset of a communication in a multicarrier communication system. The method comprises receiving a plurality of subcarriers wherein the plurality of subcarriers contain the subcarrier that is subject to the distortion; and generating a plurality of first channel estimates for a respective plurality of received subcarriers that are not subject to the distortion. The method further comprises processing a number of the plurality of first channel estimates for the respective plurality of received subcarriers that are not subject to the distortion to generate a second channel estimate for the subcarrier that is subject to the distortion; and estimating an offset associated with the subcarrier that is subject to the distortion.

  • Publication number: 20120014338
Abstract: A cellular communication network node comprises signal processing logic arranged to transmit at least one direct signalling channel indicator bit. The signal processing logic, upon receipt of a message to be transmitted, sets at least one direct signalling channel indicator bit to indicate that a direct signalling channel is active in at least one unit of resource. The signal processing logic re-allocates the at least one unit of resource for use by at least one channel other than the direct signalling channel when no direct signalling channel messages are to be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20110299507
Abstract: In a CDMA system (100), two chip rates in a TDD cell are supported by: transmitting signals in the system in a frame (400) having a plurality of timeslots; operating at least a first one (0-8) of the plurality of timeslots in the frame at a lower chip rate; and operating at least a second one (9-14) of the plurality of timeslots in the frame at a higher chip rate. This provides the following advantages: provides backwards compatibility of a network including higher chip rate functionality with existing lower chip rate user equipment; allows greater network capacity during the transition phase from a low chip rate network to a high chip rate network; and allows a network operator with a high chip rate network to provide service to roaming users from low chip rate networks.

  • Patent number: 8014475
Abstract: An arrangement (900), method and unit for AFC in a communication system (100) having: a frequency estimator (980) producing a decision-directed frequency estimate from a received signal; and an AFC loop receiving the decision-directed frequency estimate and performing therewith frequency control. The AFC process may use a CRC-decision directed frequency estimate as the final stage in a multi-stage AFC process (preceded by SCH- and midamble-derived frequency estimate stages), such that a verified received data sequence is used to re-construct a local copy of the ideal received data symbols expected at the output of a detector. This local copy is then correlated with the actual detector output and the results used to estimate the frequency error present on the received signal. The AFC process is inherent suited for discontinuous receive (DRX) applications.
