  • Patent number: 6244793
Abstract: An attachment that allows a drilling machine, such as a drill press, to simultaneously bore the plurality of holes required for mounting a hardware component to a workpiece. In an exemplary embodiment, the attachment is adapted to simultaneously bore, in a desired disposition, all three holes needed to mount European style hinges in a single stroke. The hinge boring attachment includes a drilling head, which attaches to the chuck of the drilling machine. The drilling head rotatably supports a plurality of boring bit mounting shafts, corresponding to the number of holes to be drilled and interconnected with drive trains for translating the rotation of a center shaft, attached to the chuck of the drilling machine, to all shafts. A stabilizing arm is further preferably provided to clamp the drilling head to the support post of the drill press and roll smoothly along the support post during the drilling operation.

  • Patent number: 5882151
Abstract: A boring tool includes a depth stop for regulating cutting depth of the boring tool. The boring tool has a shank and an elongated cutting head. The depth stop includes a sleeve body which is selectively, detachably fixed to a shank of the boring tool by a sleeve body attaching mechanism and a cutting depth regulating structure that is rotatably mounted to the sleeve body. A depth stop for regulating cutting depth of a rotary cutting tool having an axis of rotation includes a cutting depth regulating structure having circumferentially spaced, radially extending tines including a portion extending substantially in parallel to the axis of rotation and may be selectively, detachably fixed to the rotary cutting tool by a collet.

  • Patent number: 5810524
Abstract: A plug cutter has a main body portion having a longitudinal axis, shank portion extending axially from one end of the main body, and a plurality of blades extending axially from an opposite end of the main body. The blades are formed so that at least a portion of the inner surfaces thereof have a measure of radial relief with respect to the leading edges of the blades. A radial distance from the axis of rotation of the plug cutter to the leading edge of each blade is always less than the radial distance from the axis of rotation to any other portion of the inner surface. Accordingly, when a plug is being cut with the plug cutter, a gap is defined between an outer surface of the plug and the radially relieved portion of the inner surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5795110
Abstract: A depth stop is provided that is selectively attachable to a cutting tool at an operator-selected location. The end of the depth stop that comes into contact with a work piece during operation is covered with a rotating cap. The cap prevents the work piece from being marred because the cap stops rotating when it comes into contact with the work piece while the cutting tool and the rest of the depth stop continue to rotate. The cap is rotatably mounted on the depth stop by a flange that engages a groove formed in the depth stop. An annular ring is provided between the cap and the end of the depth stop body to facilitate the rotatability of the cap with respect to the body.

  • Patent number: 5413158
Abstract: A simplified mortising adapter for converting a conventional radial arm saw, or other power tool having an arbor, into a mortising tool. The adapter includes a base plate and a drive spindle rotatably mounted to the base plate for connecting to the radial arm saw or other power tool's arbor and driving a chain saw adjustably attached to the base plate. The drive spindle has a socket having a characteristic shape which is generally complementary to the shape of the arbor so that those components can be drivingly engaged. The adapter also includes a clamp mechanism for clamping the base plate to the power tool in a manner such that the base plate can be adjusted to concentrically align the drive spindle with the arbor when the base plate is clamped to the power tool.
