  • Publication number: 20020194362
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a network system includes a boundary router, a second router, and an upstream link of the second router coupled between to the output port of the boundary router and an input port of the second router. The second router includes an admission control function and a data plane. In response to a request to reserve resources for a flow through the second router, the admission control function performs admission control for both the upstream link and its downstream link. In a preferred embodiment, the second router performs admission control for the upstream link only if the second router is a receiving edge router for the flow. Because the second router performs admission control for its upstream link, the boundary router transmits the request toward an upstream router without performing admission control for the link.

  • Patent number: 6496476
Abstract: In a path-based distributed restoration algorithm provisioned telecommunications network, the origin and destination nodes of a failed path are apprised of the portions of the path that remain intact by “reuse” messages that are sent from the custodial nodes that are adjacent to the failure. As each reuse message reaches an intermediate node, the node ID of the intermediate node is appended to a field of the message so that, as the reuse messages are propagated along the intact portions of the failed path, a cumulative list of nodes that are encountered by the messages passing from the custodial nodes to the origin and destination nodes is set forth. Thus, the origin/destination node, when in receipt of a reuse message, can read from the field that has the cumulative list of nodes a description of the intact portions remaining from the original path.
