    Abstract: The invention relates generally to secure data entry devices and methods of using such devices. A secure data entry device is provided that includes an integrated imaging device arranged such that it captures at least one image of a user during a transaction. The at least one image is processed in order to generate a biometric pattern. In one embodiment the at least one image includes a user's face and the processing involves applying a facial recognition algorithm to the at least one image to generate the biometric pattern. In some embodiments the biometric pattern is compared to a trusted biometric pattern in order to determine whether to approve or decline the transaction.

In some embodiments one or more beacons are provided in a premises, to allow the location of a mobile payment initiating device to be determined. This location is used to either direct the payment initiating device to a payment instrument reading device, or vice versa. Transaction data generated by the payment initiating device is automatically transmitted to the payment instrument reading device. A pairing module is also provided, which is configured to pair a payment instrument reading device with a payment initiating device.

A second embodiment is provided in which a server associated with an acquirer generates an identification message that is separate from but based on a response message associated with a transaction, and provisioning is authorised or declined based on the identification message.
