  • Patent number: 4244675
Abstract: A compensator for differential thermal expansion in a multi-stage barrel type centrifugal pump has a truncated conical body section and a plurality of leaf springs extending radially from said body section, the compensator is disposed in the multi-stage barrel type centrifugal pump between the outer casing and the end most interstage pumping assembly of a plurality of serially disposed interstage pumping assemblies in the centrifugal pump so that it is biased by the leaf springs to exert a controlled force in the direction of the end most interstage pumping assembly to permit movement between the serially disposed interstage pumping assemblies with variations in temperature arising during the operation of the centrifugal pump while continuing to maintain a tight seal between these respective interstage pumping assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4215976
Abstract: A turbine impeller pump particularly for use in a geothermal pumping system has a casing with a hollow cylindrical stator or axle fixedly connected in the longitudinal axis thereof which stator or axle defines a flow passage for motive fluid and enables a rotor assembly to be rotatably mounted thereon. The rotor has spaced composite impellers which lie in assembled position in medially disposed pumping chambers in the casing having a suction inlet for fluid to be pumped and a discharge outlet for pumped fluid. The rotor further has first and second multi-stage axial flow driving assemblies disposed on opposite sides of the spaced composite impellers so that the motive fluid for driving the same can be passed to the respective adjacent composite impellers and delivered with the fluid being pumped.

  • Patent number: 4116583
Abstract: Multi-purpose end casing for ring type multi-stage centrifugal pumps adaptable respectively for the side suction end casings and side discharge end casings of horizontal, vertical and dry pit side suction multi-stage ring type centrifugal pumps, are disclosed as having a generally cylindrical body portion having at least four tie rod lugs extending therefrom at generally 90.degree. intervals. Each of the tie rod lugs has an ample adapter bearing surface, and a rabbet fitted surface formed thereon to render the same utilizable with a variety of adapters as may be required in different types of pumps on which the end casings are used. Machined, foot mounting surfaces are provided on at least three sides of the respective side suction end casings and side discharge end casings to enable the ready attachment and detachment of pump casing mounting feet.

  • Patent number: 4113089
Abstract: A preassembled unit or inner cartridge for a multi-stage barrel type centrifugal pump including, bearings, seals, balancing device, impellers and diffusers is aligned, balanced and pressed together into assembled position by a resilient means for stressing the parts against a pair of spaced handling clamps at opposite ends of the preassembled unit which permits the shaft to act as an elongated tie bolt to hold the preassembled unit or cartridge so that it can be installed or removed easily from the fixed outer casing of the multi-stage barrel type centrifugal pump. The unit or cartridge is preassembled and aligned in a special supporting frame which duplicates the engagement shoulder and end face on the pump casing so that all adjustments can be made easily and precisely at a point away from the pump.

  • Patent number: 4111597
Abstract: A centrifugal pump having a casing with a medially disposed partition for defining therein a flow chamber on one side of the partition and a pumping chamber on the other side thereof, said flow chamber having a side inlet for fluid to be pumped and said pumping chamber having an outlet for pumped fluid. The partition has a generally disposed central opening therethrough to provide communication between the flow chamber and the pumping chamber and said flow chamber forms a fluid flow path from the side inlet to the opening in said partition of generally curvilinear shape which is spaced from and about the axial line of the pump. A driven shaft is rotatably mounted in the axial line of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4097186
Abstract: Multi-Stage ring type centrifugal pumps for pumping fluids are adapted to receive an inducer shaped and sized generally but not necessarily to replace the impeller and diffuser of the first pumping stage of the given centrifugal pump. The preferred type of inducer for this use has an enlarged inlet diameter, at least two inducer vanes; an outlet diameter less than the inlet diameter to provide generally convergent flow passages, and the selected inlet vane angle for the inducer vanes will provide a positive incidence angle to increase the pressure at the suction inlet of the associated stage impeller into which the fluid being pumped is delivered. The inductor is shown in various forms. One embodiment includes an integral hub, inducer vanes and outer shroud. A second male type embodiment includes an integral hub and inducer vanes, and an operatively associated fixed outer shroud matched to the outer periphery of the inducer vanes.

  • Patent number: 4079008
Abstract: A mixing vessel is provided for the treatment of wastes with aerobic bacterial cultures having high-turbulent mixing under conditions supportive of rapid waste digestion. The mixing vessel has a chamber therein with a sparger depending into the central portion and providing streams of incoming untreated waste feed that are distributed radially from the longitudinal axis of the vessel. Medially positioned in the chamber is an annular collector concentric to the sparger for withdrawing waste material under treatment into a recirculation loop. The collector is operatively associated with a recirculation pump, a system outlet, an aeration fluid delivery means and a jet injector. The jet injector has a nozzle for propelling at high velocities a jet of fluids upwardly into the chamber along the longitudinal axis. The jet is comprised of recirculation wastes and entrained air.

  • Patent number: 4037985
Abstract: A flushing liquid system for an improved wearing ring in a centrifugal pump which wearing ring has spaced flushing liquid inlet and outlet chambers, has a first control assembly for supplying flushing liquid to the flushing liquid inlet chamber and a second control assembly for returning or draining at least a portion of the flushing liquid through the flushing liquid outlet chamber, with respective first and second control assemblies either having a predetermined setting or operatively responsive to signals from sensory devices for sensing at least one or more operating conditions of the centrifugal pump so that the operation of the first and second control devices can act to minimize flushing liquid requirements of the wearing ring and minimize dilution by the flushing liquid of the process fluid or mixture being pumped by the centrifugal pump.
