    Abstract: A coke-oven door for use in combination with a coke-oven chamber having an upright doorjamb has a door panel whose periphery is complementary to the doorjamb and which is provided with a seal extending around that periphery between the same and the doorjamb. A plug with a heat-insulating outer wall is carried on this panel within the seal and projects through the doorjamb into the chamber. This plug is formed with a vertically extending and upwardly open passage bounded by a metallic inner wall having gaps by which gases produced during coking adjacent the plug enter the passage on their way to a flue, exchanging heat through the metallic wall with the charge in the oven and thereby aiding the coking operation.

    Abstract: A coking chamber of a coke-oven battery, with heated longitudinal walls interconnected by a doorjamb at each end, is closed by a pair of doors sealingly fitting into these doorjambs. Each door has a vertical channel separated from the exterior by an outer wall with a heat-insulating layer and from the interior of the chamber by an upright metal plate facilitating thermal conduction therebetween. The channel is accessible at various levels or over its entire length to gases evolving from a charge inside the chamber which, in rising toward the roof of the chamber, retransmit some of their heat through the metal plate to the charge for enabling substantially uniform heating thereof from four sides.

    Abstract: A water-aeration apparatus has a tubular frame defining a substantially closed chamber and capable of floating and carrying a load when the chamber is filled with air. Flood and bleed valves are provided at respective underwater water intakes and above-water air exhausts for introducing water into the chamber and for withdrawing air therefrom. A double-walled conduit is supported on the frame and has an outer substantially gas-impervious wall and, spaced inwardly therefrom, an inner gas-pervious wall. The conduit is inclined to the horizontal when the frame is floating and has an upper conduit end and a lower conduit end. A pump carried on the frame has an air intake above the water when the frame is floating and an air output at the lower end and directed toward the upper end.

    Abstract: An apparatus for withdrawing and cleaning emissions of a battery of coke ovens, which emissions occur during the filling, coking, especially within the region of the doors, and during the pushing. The battery of coke ovens includes a charging larry with a withdrawal device for the filling gases. This battery is provided with suction conduits located on both sides of the battery and above the doors, while extending in the longitudinal direction of the battery. Connected to the suction conduits are collecting chambers for dust laden gases which rise within the region of the doors. A coke quenching car is displaceable substantially parallel to the battery. The coke quenching car has associated therewith a collecting hood which extends over the coke quenching car and which is provided with a withdrawing device for dust laden gases and vapors.

    Abstract: A device for collecting emissions rising from a quenching car of a battery of coke ovens which device is displaceable on rails parallel to the battery of coke ovens and a collecting conduit for the emissions of the quenching car. The device includes a withdrawal connection for the emissions which is connectable to desired spots of the collecting conduit. The device also includes a first hood above which there is provided a collector for the emissions which extends in the longitudinal direction of the first hood. At one end of the first hood the collector is provided with a transition or conveying member from the first hood to the collector. This transition or conveying member has associated therewith a pre-adjustable throttle flap.
