Abstract: A coffee machine is disclosed which is of the type including a horizontal guide track and a brewing unit mounted for reciprocal movement on the guide track between predefined rest and brewing positions. The machine has first and second slides mounted for sliding movement on the track, a straining unit mounted to the side for movement therewith, a brewing chamber formed integrally with a cylinder that extends above it and a plunger which is axially movable into and out of the cylinder when it is in the brewing position in order to force brewing water into the brewing chamber from the cylinder. The brewing chamber has an open bottom and is mounted to the second slide means in a position above the straining unit for movement therewith. The brewing chamber can be moved into a predefined loading position in alignment with the straining unit into the brewing position together with the straining unit, and into an emptying position in which it is horizontally displaced with respect to the straining unit.
Abstract: A steam pressure cooker having a lid with a retainer body, such as a grip member or a valve housing for containing safety and monitoring devices releasably affixed thereto by means of a sealed fastener element. For protection of said devices against contamination from inside or outside the cooker, such as during cleaning thereof, all of said devices are located in cavities formed in said retainer body and sealed against the interior of the cooker, said sealing being accomplished by means of a diaphragm. The fastener element is releasable independently of the remaining components.
Abstract: A process for partially silver electroplating the metal surface of a flat silver part wherein part of the surface is covered prior to silvering with a plating-resistant dipping enamel. A separation surface is provided between the exposed surface of the part to be covered with the dipping enamel and the exposed surface of the lengthwise adjacent part to be silvered. The separation surface consists of a material which is more difficult to wet with the dipping enamel than the metal of the surface to be covered. Preferably, the separation surface is the peripheral surface of a spacer lamination composed of polytetrafluoroethylene.
Abstract: A method for making table knives is disclosed wherein the blade including its foot portion and shank is made electrically insulated from the handle and subsequently the blade foot portion is ground flush prior to the handle being silver-plated.
Abstract: A coffee machine comprising a pressure-tight boiler having a hot water tank and a cold water tank having a volume at least about half the volume of said hot water tank, a heater located in the hot water tank, a filter chamber, a discharge line connected to the filter chamber, an ascending tube running from the bottom of the hot water tank to the inlet end of said discharge line, hot water being forced up through said ascending tube after heating of the water by a buildup of pressure in said boiler, the hot water passing into the discharge line and to the filter chamber, said cold water tank communicating with said hot water tank in an upper region of said boiler and also through a connection near the bottom thereof so that as the hot water is forced out of the hot water tank, cold water will flow into the hot water tank from the cold water tank, the connection controlling the quantity of cold water supplied to thereby controlling the maximum temperature of the hot water and substantially preventing heat from
Abstract: A method of making knives in which a separate blade and handle are bonded together by electron-beam welding which reduces the susceptibility to corrosion at the weld area and thereby increases the knife life. In addition, the blade can be unhardened when welded, and hardened after welding to reverse any structural changes occurring in the metal adjacent the weld and thereby more reliably reduce the susceptibility to corrosion at the weld area. The step of hardening the blade after welding can be used to provide satisfactory corrosion resistance in knives where separate blades and handles are joined by other welding techniques such as electrical seam and oxyacetylene welding.
Abstract: A sheet metal shears for metal sheets and plates with a highly sensitive surface comprises: a sheet metal infeed platen with a lower blade secured to the edge thereof extending transversely to the direction of sheet advance; a sheet stop disposed in spaced relation from the lower blade in the direction of sheet advance; a movable top blade which in cooperation with the lower blade cuts sheet metal strips from the metal sheet which is advanced over the lower blade up to the sheet stop; and a support means for the sheet metal strips including a movable table which may be extended to support said strips prior to and during the cutting operation in a support plane which is a continuation of the surface of the sheet metal infeed platen and which may be retracted to enable the cut metal strips to fall vertically after they are cut from the sheet.
