Abstract: A non-bleeding, predispersed composition useful for dispersing a peroxide vulcanizing agent or coagent into a rubber or plastic stock is disclosed which comprises (A) from about 20 to about 70 percent by weight of a peroxide vulcanizing agent or coagent, and (B) a multi-stage graft copolymer comprising (1) from about 70 to about 90 percent by weight of a hard portion made by graft polymerizing (a) a monomer or monomers selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl methacrylates, styrene, and mixtures thereof, and (b) a small but effective amount of a cross-linking agent for said monomer or monomers, in any order onto (2) from about 10 to about 30 percent by weight of a rubbery portion comprising a polymer or copolymer made by polymerizing (a) a monomer selected from the group consisting of butadiene and lower alkyl acrylates or (b) a mixture of monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene and butadiene, and acrylonitrile and butadiene.
Abstract: A homogeneous predispersed fiber composition useful for dispersing a fibrous material in a rubber or plastic compound stock, said composition comprising a fibrous material and a rubber or plastic polymer binder, wherein said composition is prepared by mixing a latex of the rubber or plastic polymer with the fibrous material to form a wetted fiber mixture, mixing a coagulant with the wetted fiber mixture thereby forming the predispersed fiber composition, wherein the total amount of water present in the wetted fiber mixture prior to coagulation is substantially equal to that required to completely wet the fibrous material by either capillary action, surface adsorption or a combination thereof.
Abstract: Products of a coprecipitation process comprising (i) substantially clear serum and (ii) homogeneous, essentially non-tacky, dustless, friable particles of predispersed rubber or plastic compounding chemical which comprise from about 80 to about 99.5 percent by weight of said chemical and from about 0.5 to about 20 percent by weight of a film-forming binder comprising a rubber or plastic polymer, wherein substantially all of the particles of the compounding chemical are at least 0.05 micron in size and no compounding chemical used is a reinforcing agent or diluent for rubber or plastic stock, are formed associatively.
Abstract: A composition of matter useful for dispersing a critical chemical in a rubber or plastic compound, said composition comprising from about 60 to about 95 percent by weight of a critical chemical and from about 5 to about 40 percent by weight of a binder, said binder comprising at least one component selected from (i) liquids compatible with said rubber or plastic compound and with the other binder components and (ii) waxes having a sharp melting point in the range of 55.degree.-80.degree. C, and a polymer having a molecular weight of at least about 50,000 which when combined with the other binder components produces a binder which is a non-tacky gel below about 53.degree. C. The composition can additionally comprise a fine powder reinforcing agent, which can also serve as a stabilizer for the binder.
Abstract: A rubber composition comprising a highly unsaturated rubber, a magnesium compound capable of donating electrons and a carboxylated cobalt oxy metal complex comprising at least one metal atom selected from Groups IIIA, IIIB, IVA, IVB, VA and VB of the Periodic Table, at least one cobalt atom, said metal and cobalt atoms being linked through oxygen atoms, at least one acyloxy radical attached to a cobalt atom, and any residual valences of said complex being satisfied by acyloxy, aryloxy or alkoxy radicals.
