  • Patent number: 6072501
Abstract: A computerized two-dimensional illustration system composes an image of a scene with layered synthetic graphics filters or lenses. The scene is defined by an ordered list of shapes. Some of the shapes in the ordered list of shapes are lenses. Each lens is a shape that has a fill color which is an operator rather than a constant. The operator of a selected lens performs a filtering function on the shapes ordered below it in the list of shapes. To compose a selected lens in the scene, the system first computes an under-list of shapes for the selected lens. The under-list of shapes is used to identify those shapes in the ordered list of shapes to which the filtering function of the selected lens may apply. Depending on the filtering function of a lens, the lens composes in either a back-to-front order or a front-to-back order. A lens composes in a back-to-front order by freezing lenses in the under-list before applying the filtering function of the lens to shapes in the under-list.

  • Patent number: 6073160
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for providing a general-purpose, multifunction, individually addressable, full-bandwidth bi-directional communication device with built-in Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) capabilities that connects a home or business user with ATM and other switched broadband digital networks in a convenient, adaptable, extensible manner at reasonable cost. The device supports a Document Services Architecture (DSA) and, in particular, supports agent-based communications (including interaction with an Agent Instance Service) to ensure well-behaved communications and fair allocation of network resources among users. The device can be used in a heterogeneous environment and with different types of networks and protocols. The full-bandwidth bi-directional communication and built-in AAA capabilities of the device distinguish it from other "set-top boxes.

  • Patent number: 6072542
Abstract: Detection of video shot boundaries using a Video Segmenting Hidden Markov Model to model the sequence of states of a video. The Video Segmenting Hidden Markov Model determines the state sequence based on feature values. • Patent number: 6070961
Abstract: A priming station for an ink jet printer includes an ink accumulator tank which has an enhanced moisture vapor transfer rate based on a choice of materials and tank design. In a preferred embodiment, the ink accumulator tank is connected between a printhead nozzle face capping member and a vacuum pump. The tank comprises a tub bonded to a cover having holes formed therethrough. A thin, highly permeable film which provides a relatively high moisture vapor transfer rate is adhesively bonded to the cover overlying the holes. In a preferred embodiment, the film is a thin (0.635 to 0.78 mm thick) silicone or Mylar. This design reduces the accumulator tank replacement frequency by increasing the evaporation rate of the ink stored in the tank.

  • Patent number: 6069973
Abstract: A method for calibrating a multi-chip image sensor, and an imaging system having a multi-chip sensor that includes color correction factors generated by such a method. The image sensor is successively controlled to image three different test targets. After imaging each target, a set of correction factors is generated and used to correct image signals generated when imaging the next test target. A first set of correction factors corrects for pixel-to-pixel variations between imaging elements in the array. The second set of correction factors corrects for chip-to-chip variations between chips in the array. The third set of correction factors corrects for array-wide variations compared to a standard color chart.

  • Patent number: 6069624
Abstract: There is provided a system for a multifunctional printing system which controls a manner in which status message sets are displayed on a display screen of a corresponding user interface. As contemplated, a first service attribute designating set of information is displayed on the display screen at a first time and a second service attribute designating set of information is displayed on the display screen at a second time, with the second time being subsequent to the first time. In practice, a message manager determines whether a replacement operation has occurred with respect to the user interface such that a substantial portion of the first service attribute designating information set has been replaced visually by the second attribute designating information set. In response to determining that a replacement operation has occurred, at least a portion of a status message set currently being displayed is replaced with at least a portion of another status message set.

  • Patent number: 6070026
Abstract: A charging device includes a housing defining a chamber, the chamber having a floor, the floor having disposed therein an elongated slot pressure port and a plurality of circular hole vacuum ports. Four air flow conduits are disposed under the chamber floor to provide separate pressure air flows and vacuum air flows through the chamber. These four air flow conduits comprise two pressure conduits and two vacuum conduits. The two pressure conduits and two vacuum conduits are respectively connected at one of their ends by two turn-around connectors. Separate pressure air supply connections and vacuum air supply connections are applied to the respective other ends of the two pressure conduits and two vacuum conduits. As a result, pressure air is applied at both ends of the pressure conduit adjacent to the floor, thus causing pressure air flow through the pressure port and into the chamber.
