  • Publication number: 20080311517
Abstract: An image forming medium includes a substrate and an imaging layer coated on or impregnated into the substrate, where the imaging layer includes a photoacid generator and an acid-base indicator. In the image forming medium, irradiation of the imaging layer causes the photoacid generator to generate an acid that reacts with the acid-base indicator to produce an image.

  • Publication number: 20080311489
Abstract: An image forming medium includes a substrate and an imaging layer coated on or impregnated into a substrate, where the imaging layer is formed of an imaging composition that includes a solvent or a polymeric binder, and a photochromic material selected from substituted fulgides and substituted dithienylethenes, dissolved or dispersed in the solvent or polymeric binder, and where the imaging composition exhibits a reversible homogeneous-heterogeneous transition between a colorless state, an intermediate colorless or colored erasable state, and a final colored stable state, the photochromic material converting from the colorless state to the colored stable state upon irradiation with light of a first wavelength and converting from the colored stable state to the colorless state upon exposure to heat and light.

  • Publication number: 20080310070
Abstract: A device protection system for a device that operates using a replaceable component provided with a replaceable component, component monitor, and a means for disabling the replaceable component. The component monitor is provided with a storage unit, a sensing unit, a determination unit and a control unit that engages a disabling device for rendering the replaceable component inoperable in, or incompatible with, a device within which the replaceable component is intended to operate such as, an image forming device. In particular, the component monitors the temperature of an environment relating to the replaceable component that if exceeded, will affect performance of the replaceable component. The component will disable the disabling unit to protect the device.

  • Publication number: 20080309962
Abstract: Printing systems and methods are presented for front end processing of an incoming print job in a printing system, in which a single raster image processor instance creates ripped objects from incoming page description language files and one of two or more imagers is selectively activated according to incoming print job logical page content to create raster page images for ripped objects associated with a given logical page of the incoming print job. The imager selection can be made according to cost considerations and color printing capabilities to economize the usage of a higher cost print engine associated with a first imager while ensuring that the imager is associated with a print engine having the capabilities required for the content of the given logical page.

  • Publication number: 20080313635
Abstract: Methods and systems of processing print jobs are disclosed. A feasible route for processing each of a plurality of jobs is determined- For each feasible route, the time to process the job via the feasible route is determined. Each job is assigned to a first feasible route. A first objective function value is determined using a time to process each job assigned to each autonomous cell. A job is selected. A second feasible route is selected for the selected job. A second objective function value is determined by substituting the second feasible route for the first feasible route for the selected job. If the first value plus a threshold exceeds the second value, the second value replaces the first value, and the second feasible route replaces the first feasible route. Selection and substitution are repeated for each job. The jobs are then processed.

  • Publication number: 20080309964
Abstract: Displays are provided for a graphical user interface including a device capacity mimic in a job manager in a system, such as a xerographic machine. The displays include a visual representation of the available capacity of each of a number of devices for the system, such as each output destination for a printer with multiple output destinations. The device capacity mimic shows the effect of jobs in progress on the available capacity, each job consuming a portion of the available capacity. Using this mimic, the user may, for example, revise the destination of jobs that have been planned but not yet started (e.g., by dragging the job). A mimic view of this information with a graphical user interface for managing the device assignments is provided. Thus, a user may not only view information about the device assignments for jobs, but also control or manage the device assignments for jobs.

  • Publication number: 20080312908
Abstract: A text passage is analyzed to determine whether it contains a “be” verb or a “have” verb. If so, syntactic dependencies are obtained from the text passage, a direct object relation involving the “be” verb or “have” verb is obtained, and a verbal form of a noun appearing in the first direct object relation is obtained. The syntactic dependencies are rewritten based on the verbal form of the noun. Different syntactic rewriting criteria are applied if the text passage also contains a noun object preceding a past participle verb, or also contains an active present participle verb.

  • Patent number: 7466873
Abstract: An artifact removal and quality assurance method and system for digital images, wherein a document comprising at least one printed page is scanned or the original image data are otherwise input. The input digital image data are segmented into components as to content type. The components are classified as either information or noise components. An information component image defined by the information components and a noise component image defined by the noise components are generated and displayed to the user. The user inputs quality assurance input data to indicate zero or more improperly classified components and any improperly classified component is reclassified. The component images are then regenerated and displayed to account for the reclassified component(s). The reclassified component is moved as a unit in real time as viewed by the user from an original location in one of the component images to a corresponding location in the other of the component images.

  • Patent number: 7464926
Abstract: A pneumatic sheet feeder is selectively actuable to acquire a sheet from a stack and transport the sheet towards a take-away nip. The feeder includes a feedhead having an acquisition surface substantially aligned with the take-away nip. A sensing apparatus detects three separate distances between the stack and the acquisition surface at three separate locations over the stack. The stack is then tilted based upon the distances sensed by the sensors. In embodiments, the feedhead has two sensors, and moves so that the third distance can be measured by one of the sensors. In other embodiments, the feedhead includes three sensors for measuring each of the distances.
