Abstract: A system and method are provided that employ an ink jet process to dispose a non-aqueous solid ink product on a flexible clear film layer as an image receiving substrate to create multi-layer tamper-evident closures including tape, wrapping, labeling, marking or sealing products, in which visual information is embedded. These processes provide manufacturers of the multi-layer tamper-evident closures an ability to present variable image content in ways that would be difficult to counterfeit. These processes provide manufacturers of the multi-layer tamper-evident closures a capability to coordinate the variable image content of the multi-layer tamper-evident closures with the images that are contained in the labeling or marking of a particular product's package. In this manner, presence of the multi-layer tamper-evident closure may be partially hidden as it may be designed to blend with background packaging images in a manner that does not disrupt an aesthetically-pleasing nature of the product package.

  • Publication number: 20140022587
Abstract: A system and method detect and localize image forming devices in an office environment by causing a mobile wireless device to send location information of the mobile wireless device to a central server system, which may be cloud-based and to which an image forming device is networked, upon executing an information retrieval request for establishing communication with the image forming device or when initiating an image forming operation, such as a print job, in the image forming device using the mobile wireless device. Mobile wireless device location information may be used as an aid in automatically plotting and/or updating a site location indication of each image forming device on a site map or in a central database. Location information may be employed to provide a user with a series of selectable options regarding a plurality of image forming devices in a vicinity of the mobile wireless device for use.

  • Publication number: 20140013971
Abstract: A system and method are provided that incorporate a multi-layer plate configuration for a Digital Offset Plate (DOP) including at least a robust top imaging layer and a bottom layer that acts as a reservoir for the releasing oil in a proposed variable digital offset lithographic architecture. The top imaging layer may contain a small amount of oil (<20%) in a range suitable for allowing a small amount of oil to coat the surface and enable release of the ink. A bottom layer may be larger in volume and contain greater quantities (˜20-75%) of oil. Oil from the reservoir layer may diffuse to and through the top layer when the oil in the top surface layer is depleted in a manner that maintains a supply of oil at the surface. The top layer may act as a gate to maintain a steady flow of oil to the surface.

  • Publication number: 20140012545
Abstract: A system and method are provided to a placement and optimization process for a plurality of common use devices in an operating environment according to actual users' employment of the common use devices, and actual needs for placement of certain common use devices in the operating environment. The disclosed system and method add a level of automation that may be used to collect use data for the common use devices according to a specified scheme in order to produce a more robust, flexible and updatable scheme for confirming an initial optimal layout for the common use devices and for providing a basis for updating that initial optimal layout over time to account for unforeseen errors in the initial assessment or changes in workflow as mandated by changes in the operating environment and user preferences.

  • Publication number: 20130336690
Abstract: An apparatus, system and method are provided for fusing an image to a substrate at a fusing nip defined by a first pressure member and a pressure belt in a belt-roll fuser. The belt-roll fuser has a fuser belt having a portion that faces a surface of the first pressure member at the fusing nip. The pressure belt has a portion that faces another portion of the fuser belt at the fusing nip. The belt-roll fuser also has a group of elements configured to constrain the pressure belt such that another portion of the pressure belt faces a surface of a backing element at the fusing nip.

  • Publication number: 20130327237
Abstract: A system and method are provided to implement variable data lithographic image forming in devices that are designed to maximize re-use of conventional offset lithographic image forming components, module and architectures. A truly variable data digital lithography scheme has been proposed as a departure from conventional offset lithography schemes. This disclosure introduces a system architecture to overcome limitations based on the architectural differences that make acceptance of the variable data lithographic scheme less practical and less attractive to some manufacturers and users. The disclosed systems and methods propose incorporating novel aspects of the true variable digital printing scheme into conventional offset lithographic modules and architectures. This disclosure describes re-use of conventional offset lithographic modules and/or architectures while making the disclosed systems and methods digital.

  • Publication number: 20120320404
Abstract: Methods and structures respond to activation of a switch (or other similar user input) of a printing apparatus that controls whether a power supply is connected to and supplies power to a processor, a printing engine, and a graphic user interface of the printing apparatus. The graphic user interface comprises a bistable display that continues to show the most recently provided screenshot after the switch disconnects the power supply from the graphic user interface. Further, methods and structures cause, using the processor, the graphic user interface to display status information of the printing apparatus immediately prior to the switch being allowed to disconnect the power supply from the graphic user interface such that the graphic user interface displays the status information after being disconnected from the power supply.
