Abstract: In a monitoring method, a time sequence of information pertaining to a monitored device, network, or system is recorded, comprising observations of the monitored device, network, or system and known prior correct action recommendations for the monitored device, network, or system. A hidden Markov model (HMM) operating on the time sequence of information is maintained. The HMM comprises a hidden state of the monitored device, network, or system. A current state of the monitored device, network, or system is classified using a classification value comprising an emission of the HMM that depends on an estimate of the distribution of the hidden state and on a selected portion of the time sequence of information. An action recommendation is generated for the current state of the monitored device, network, or system based on the classification value.
Abstract: According to an aspect of the invention, a document management system includes a document state storage unit, a manipulation control unit, a stamp image storage unit, and a state change unit. The document state storage unit stores document state information representing states concerning document validity of electronic documents stored in a document storage unit. The manipulation control unit refuses a request from a user for manipulating one of the electronic documents when the document state information corresponding to the one of the electronic documents indicates that the one of the electronic documents is invalid at present. The stamp image storage unit stores a plurality of stamp images each corresponding to any one of possible states represented by the document state information.
Abstract: This is an environmental unit useful in a xerographic system that reduces or eliminates pulsation and vibration in the system. This is accomplished by the use of flexible bladders on a wall of the air duct work pumping air into the print housing. When the vibration is abated, the banding problems on images are eliminated.

Abstract: A document may include a non-magnetic substrate, a first colorant mixture printed as a first image upon the substrate, the first colorant mixture including a magnetic ink, and a second colorant mixture printed as a second image upon the substrate in substantially close spatial proximity to the printed first colorant mixture. The second colorant mixture may consist essentially of one or more non-magnetic inks and exhibit properties of both low visual contrast and high magnetic contrast against the first colorant mixture, such that the resultant printed substrate does not reveal the first image to the human eye, but will reveal the first image to a magnetic image reader.

Abstract: A combined sheet inverting and buffering system and method including a sheet drive for transporting sheets into a sheet collecting area. The sheet drive is selectively operable to transport the sheets in a first and second direction along a processing path. A holding device can hold a plurality of sheets. The sheet drive and holding device cooperate to compile the plurality of sheets into a stack wherein the sheets overlie each other in a shingled manner. A take away drive is in operative communication with the sheets for individually unloading the sheets from the sheet collecting area.
Abstract: A system for restraining printhead movement in an imaging device includes an imaging device frame; a carriage operably coupled to the imaging device frame for movement between a print position and a retracted position; and a printhead array movably supported by the carriage for translation with respect to the carriage. The system includes a restraint system supported by the carriage. The restraint system has at least one carriage restraint pin and a printhead restraint pin. The at least one carriage restraint pin is configured for movement into and out of engagement with the imaging device frame and the printhead restraint pin being configured for movement into and out of engagement with the printhead array when the carriage is at the retracted position.
Abstract: A method to determine the color status of a scanned original segments a binary halftone image into a predetermined number of local windows and converts each local window to a device-independent color space. The method then determines a color space parameter for each local window and compares the color space parameters for the local windows to at least one threshold to determine the color status of the scanned original. An apparatus having a scanner creates a scanned image of an original and has at least one processor to create a binary halftone image from the scanned image, segment the binary halftone image into a predetermined number of local windows, convert each local window to a device-independent color space, determine a color space parameter for each local window, and compare the color space parameter for each local window to at least one threshold to determine the color status for the scanned original.
Abstract: A photoconductor that includes, for example, a supporting substrate, a photogenerating layer, and at least one charge transport layer comprised of at least one charge transport component, and wherein the at least one charge transport layer contains at least one phosphine oxide.
