  • Patent number: 6251329
Abstract: A method of making rotating element sheet material utilizing magnetic latching is disclosed. First a plurality of rotating elements having a magnetized segment are mixed with magnetic particles to attract the magnetic particles to the magnetized segments. Then the rotating elements with the attached magnetic particles are mixed with a liquid elastomer. A magnetic field is applied to orient the rotating elements in a common direction. When the rotating elements and the attached magnetic particles have all been oriented the elastomer is cured to form an elastomer substrate with trapped rotating elements and magnetic particles. The elastomer substrate is then immersed into a bath of dielectric plasticizer which is absorbed more readily by elastomer than by the rotating elements. The elastomer substrate swells to create plasticizer-filled voids around the rotating elements. The magnetic particles remain incorporated within the elastomer to form magnetic material pads which are associated with an element.

  • Patent number: 6252971
Abstract: A system and method for digital watermark embedding and retrieval using phase shift stoclustic (stochastically clustered) screens. Watermarks are embedded based on the phase shift of clustered halftone screens. Therefore, the hidden information, or invisible watermark, can be detected and visualized by correlating clusters as opposed to the pixel-based correlation required by other methods. Therefore, the detection of watermarks is much easier, especially when distortions have been introduced into the embedded image.

  • Patent number: 6252674
Abstract: Picture image output processing is performed that takes into consideration the time elapsed from when picture image output demands are made by a user to when the output results are acquired. A host device or information processing device includes a position information memory that stores information based on the respective positional relationships of the host device main body and multiple picture image output devices. A picture image output device selector determines which picture image output device the picture image information is transmitted to using the information based on these positional relationships. The picture image output device also includes position information memory that stores information based on the respective positional relationships of the picture image output device main body and multiple host devices. A picture image output priority determiner determines from which host device the picture image information is received using the information based on these positional relationships.

  • Patent number: 6252675
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus allowing the application of two or more distinct halftone types in the rendering of a single image. The invention employs a halftone selector of a threshold type, or as an alternative a segmenter type. The halftone selector determines which areas of an image will receive which type of grayscale halftone treatment on a pixel by pixel basis. Examples of various halftone types include stochastic, clustered dot, line screen, and other high addressability types. Each pixel of data is treated by the appropriate halftoner circuit which in response outputs digital data. A controller circuit remaps the digital data into the appropriate width and position signals for a pulse width position modulator, including any other signals as needed for any additional inverter circuitry. The pulse width position modulator generates a video signal which may be inverted by the inverter circuit as responsive to the controller circuit remapping determination.

  • Patent number: 6252679
Abstract: A method and system of designing a digital halftoning screen for forming images on output sheets according to a set of image signals. The method generates a halftone line screen having multiple levels, each level having multiple line segments, each line segment having an equal pre-determined number of elements. The method stochastically assigns threshold values to pixels corresponding to a first element within the multiple line segments of a first level and assigns a same threshold value to a pixel corresponding to a single level to create a first element stochastic fill sequence. The method then assigns threshold values to pixels corresponding to a first element within the multiple line segments of the remaining levels of the halftone line screen according to the first element stochastic fill sequence.

  • Publication number: 20010004073
Abstract: A control system for delivering a constant fuser temperature despite variations in the line voltage. In general, this is effected by a control circuit which employs closed loop feedback control to control the rms voltage across the load. This is accomplished by a circuit and method which functionally provides a continuous solution to the equation which describes the relationship between the temperature of the fuser and the temperature of a desired control setpoint. Briefly, the solution of this equation is obtained by monitoring, i.e. sampling, the temperature of the fuser, subtracting the desired control temperature, and then integrating the difference over time. The resultant time integral is used to control the operating point of a pulse width modulated power controller. The integrator has a time constant sufficiently long and the power controller operates at a frequency sufficiently high so as to render lighting flicker imperceptible.

  • Publication number: 20010004348
Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical head, a magneto-optical head, and a disk apparatus, that have high light efficiency, can realize high-density recording medium and perform high-speed recording and reproduction, and can prevent erroneous record or erroneous reproduction, and a manufacturing method of the optical head. When a converged beam enters an incident surface of a transparent condensing medium, its refracted beam is condensed on a light-condensed surface and forms a light spot. Since leaking out to an aperture formed on an outer surface of the light-condensed surface of this light spot, near field light is scattered by a micro metal member. In addition, since, also in the micro metal member, plasmon resonance occurs by the irradiation of a laser beam, near field light leaks out therefrom. This near field light becomes propagation light and enters a recording medium of a disk, and recording into the recording medium is performed by this light.

  • Patent number: 6248151
Abstract: A method for manufacturing metal structures in which minute drops of a liquid metal are emitted from an acoustic device through an inert gas. The presence of the inert gas at the surface of the liquid metal prevent the formation of an oxide skin which would absorb acoustic energy and hinder droplet formation and emission. The droplets are then emitted towards a substrate, which may form as a carrier, where they may be used to form solder bumps, circuit traces, or accepted to form a three dimensional device.

  • Patent number: 6248289
Abstract: A method for molding relatively complex and large shapes by a co-injection molding process which results in a significantly less expensive and lighter molded product. The process steps include first injection molding a thermoplastic material highly densified with ceramic or stainless steel particulate material to form a shell structure having a homogeneous dispersion of the ceramic or stainless steel material within its matrix and then injecting a significantly less expensive material into the core of the preformed thermoplastic/ceramic or stainless steel structure and thereafter sintering the resulting molded structure. The resultant structure is a hollow shell of highly densified ceramic or stainless steel.

  • Patent number: 6249346
Abstract: A micro spectrophotometer is monolithically constructed on a silicon substrate. The spectrophotometer includes a concave grating, which is used for dispersing optical waves as well as focusing reflected light onto a photodiode array sited on a silicon bridge.
