  • Patent number: 8170562
Abstract: In this disclosure a technique of base station assisted mobility detection of handsets is described. More specifically by transmitting the subnet ID in the Beacon, a base station simplifies the process of network detection. This also leads to a significant reduction in handoff latency by giving the handset ample time to prepare for the impending handoff.

  • Publication number: 20120071161
Abstract: This invention addresses a method of whereby a cellular base station can scan the radio band to identify radio channels that are not in use, then claim those un-used radio channels for use to transmit and receive radio signals. A plurality of such radio base station could then comprise a cellular radio network, which channel planning and frequency re-use has become autonomous and self organizing. The present disclosure aims to further expand the utility and function of such self organizing cellular networks by including a user interface to the base station by which the operator can define the radio spectrum boundaries that the base station is authorized to operate within and to further set operational rules for the use of sub-sections of that defined spectral boundary.

  • Patent number: 8125951
Abstract: A technique for network entry in multi-channel mobile systems is described. The procedure utilizes the channel specific information sent in the beacon of each channel to select a subset of suitable channels. It then proceeds to scan these channels to gather information on perceived interference and received signal strength. Based on collected information the device picks the most suitable channel for joining the network. Since the channels to be scanned are pre-selected based on information seen in the beacon, the overall scan latency is reduced, thereby leading to a faster and more successful network entry.

  • Patent number: 8090394
Abstract: This disclosure describes a dynamic pattern elimination compression method to eliminate redundant patterns, the content of which is not known a priori, by identifying the candidate dynamic patterns and marking them, then checking to see if there are any duplicate occurrences within the entire message by searching for markers, if a marker is found, checking to see if the pattern occurred before, if not, assigning a unique variable to the pattern, if so replacing the pattern with the variable that was assigned for this pattern, and if a pattern is found only once, removing the variable assigned to it.

  • Patent number: 8081707
Abstract: A system and method of carrier less modulation is described in this disclosure that uses SAW filters as a modulator in addition to their conventional use as filters for band limiting an UWB system. This system and method is primarily designed to be used with any integer cycle, ultra-wide band or impulse type modulation and more particularly is designed to work with a method of modulation named xMax. This technique exploits the impulse response of the SAW filter producing a carrier less impulse radio system with limited bandwidth, low average power, but high peak power.

  • Patent number: 8059754
Abstract: A receiver synchronization technique is described in this disclosure that significantly reduces the convergence time for synchronization further enabling specially modulated radio frequency carrier waves using the following steps: the characteristics of the baseband signal are used to detect the start of a received burst. Once the presence of a symbol is detected, the data acquisition subsystem is enabled to begin collecting samples. These samples are then transferred to the DSP. The DSP then searches for a preamble to precisely determine the timing delay to the start of the payload data.

  • Publication number: 20110194490
Abstract: A method that addresses a cross layer optimization technique for TCP in which the need to send ACK frames across wireless links is contained by using the information from the MAC layer acknowledgements is disclosed. More specifically the method significantly reduces bandwidth consumption and improves the performance of TCP on wireless networks. Furthermore, since the number of transmitted and received packets is reduced at the mobile device, the battery life of the device can be improved significantly. The proposed method can also be applied to downlink and uplink ACK frames with a slight variation between the two.
