    Abstract: A pumping unit is provided with a hydraulic drive unit. The drive includes a hydraulic motor attached to a driven sheave that, through reduction gears, drives a drive shaft and crank arm that causes the pumping unit to pump. The speed of the hydraulic motor is controlled by hydraulic pump in fluid communication with the hydraulic motor. A prime mover drives the hydraulic pump. The speed of the hydraulic pump (and the hydraulic motor by correlation) is controlled by a speed control on the prime mover and/or a flow control valve.
