Patent number: 11754126Abstract: A drive transmission apparatus includes a dog clutch including a dog gear assembly and a dog ring, which are configured for rotation and relative axial adjustment between an engaged condition in which torque can be transmitted and a disengaged condition. The dog gear assembly includes a dog gear, a retractable dog assembly configured for movement relative to the dog gear between an extended position and a retracted position, and a control element that controls movement of the retractable dog assembly. The dog ring includes a plurality of first dogs and the dog gear assembly includes a plurality of second dogs that engage the first dogs in the engaged condition, and that are disengaged from the first dogs in the disengaged condition. The second dogs include a plurality of fixed dogs that are mounted on the dog gear and a plurality of retractable dogs of the retractable dog assembly.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2021Date of Patent: September 12, 2023Assignees: Xtrac Limited, Suzuki Motor CorporationInventors: Torsten O'Brien, Daijiro Mashita, Jon Marsh, Paul Pomfret, Richard Gostick, Jamie Rusbridge

Patent number: 9358873Abstract: A transmission system for a hybrid vehicle includes a primary input shaft for receiving drive from a primary vehicle drive motor, such as an internal combustion engine. A secondary input shaft receives drive from a secondary vehicle drive motor, such as an electric motor. An output shaft of the system is connected to drive a final drive unit. A multi-speed gearbox is provided to connect the primary input shaft to the output shaft at one of a plurality of gear ratios. An input selection mechanism, in a first mode, connects the secondary input shaft to drive the output shaft and, in a second mode, connects the secondary input shaft to drive the primary input shaft. A clutch may be provided that can selectively connect or disconnect drive between the primary drive motor and the gearbox.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2012Date of Patent: June 7, 2016Assignee: Xtrac LimitedInventors: Adrian Paul Moore, Clive David Woolmer, Christopher Guy Cholmeley, Michael John Allen, Matthew Charles Clutterbuck, Paul Pomfret

Patent number: 8424405Abstract: A mainshaft assembly for a gearbox includes a mainshaft (44) and drive gears (31, 36) carried for rotation about the mainshaft. First and second hubs (50, 50?) are associated with respective drive gears, each hub being operable to selectively couple or uncouple with the drive gear causing it to rotate with the hub or with respect to the hub. A drive connection mechanism (42, 64, 66) associated with each hub selectively connects the hub to the mainshaft. Upon connection of the hubs to the drive gears, the drive connection operates to connect one or other of the hubs to the mainshaft when torque is applied to the mainshaft in a first direction or an opposite direction. This enables a gear ratio to be selected by reversing the torque being handled by the gearbox.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2009Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Xtrac LimitedInventors: Adrain Paul Moore, Andrew McDougall, Anthony Tremlett, Ian Foster

Patent number: 8257187Abstract: A constant velocity (CV) joint assembly comprising a CV joint and an input member is disclosed. The CV joint that has a cage and a gear between which rotational drive can be transmitted. The input member is connected to the cage of the CV joint for transmission of rotational drive about an axis from an external component to the CV joint. The rotational drive is transmitted between the cage and the input member through interacting drive faces that are disposed in a plane that is generally parallel to the axis. The cage and the input member are retained in interconnection by fastening means that are not responsible for transmission of rotational drive between the cage and the input member. By separating the task of transmission of torque and retention of the connection between the cage and the input member, the fastening means required to perform the latter task can be comparatively light.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2008Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Xtrac LimitedInventors: Michael Kerr, Adrian Paul Moore

Patent number: 7428854Abstract: A mainshaft assembly for a gearbox and a gearbox embodying such a mainshaft assembly are disclosed. The mainshaft assembly comprises a mainshaft, and several drive gears, each carried for rotation about the mainshaft, each drive gear having a different number of teeth. The assembly includes first and a second hub, each being associated with a respective drive gear, each hub having a dog ring operable to selectively couple with the drive gear causing it to rotate with the hub or uncouple from the drive gear to allow the drive gear to rotate with respect to the hub. A respective drive connection means comprising a cage and rollers is associated with each hub and is operative to connect or disconnect the hub to the mainshaft for rotation with it or to allow rotation with respect to it.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2006Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: Xtrac LimitedInventors: Adrian Moore, Paul Pomfret, Andrew Heard, Andrew McDougall, Christopher Cholmeley
