  • Patent number: 4573552
Abstract: A safety device of a lift for vehicles which has a stopper shaft and a rack to protect accidental fall of cradles of the lift during operations. The stopper shaft is pivoted at one end to an upper frame of the lift with sufficient flexibility for lateral movement, while another free end of the stopper shaft is kept at a resting position on an extension of the rack during the cradles being kept at the lowermost position. The rack is provided with a first guide comprising a vertical member disposed alongside the rack and a slightly inclined flat member under the rack, so that the free end of the stopper shaft moves over the rack without sheering off the course during rise of the cradles, and can be engaged with the rack when the cradles is stopped at a desired raised position. The rack is also provided with a passage for the free end having an inclined surface at one end near the resting position and a second guide mounted thereto to lead the free end on the extension of the rack.

  • Patent number: 4533908
Abstract: A warning means for a safety valve of a hydraulic power unit and a hydraulic power unit having the same for use in a lifting jack, a vehicle lift, or the like, are disclosed. When an overload is given to a cylinder chamber of a hydraulic power unit, a safety valve is automatically opened so as to release an oil in the overloaded cylinder chamber back to an oil tank. When the safety valve is opened, a warning means switches on a caution buzzer and a caution lamp to appeal the overload to the senses of eyesight and hearing of a human being in order to prevent an accident to be followed previously. The warning means comprises a reed switch and a magnet adapted to be moved by the oil passed through the safety valve.

  • Patent number: 4513950
Abstract: Disclosed is a garage jack for lifting an automobile provided with an arm lock mechanism which defines two angular positions of the lifting arm so that the lifting arm is prevented from inadvertently falling, for instance, due to loss of hydraulic pressure, below the two annular positions. Since there are two such positions, the safety to the user of the garage jack is enhanced. Furthermore, the arm lock mechanism is highly simple with two engagement means provided on the lifting arm and corresponding two pawls on a rotatable shaft. This arm lock mechanism may be readily deactivated by securing a lock/unlock bar. Additionally, the garage jack is provided with a pair of composite wheels each comprised of a steel wheel and an elastic wheel so that the garage jack may be moved from one place to another very quietly thanks to the elastic wheel and may follow the motion of its lifting head when a load is applied to the lifting head and the elastic wheel has yielded under the load thanks to the steel wheel.
