  • Publication number: 20210394281
Abstract: Disclosed are a drill and an insert for a drill having improved centering capability and cutting performance. In the drill of the present disclosure, central relief surfaces of cutting parts are processed as flat relief surfaces, and outer circumferential relief surfaces continuing from the center part to the outer circumferential surface of the drill are processed as curved relief surfaces, thereby enhancing the centering capability of the drill and minimizing the generation of drill vibration and burrs. In addition, in the drill of the present disclosure, the outer relief surfaces of the drill in contact with a hole to be drilled are processed such that an angle between the tangential lines of the outer relief surfaces is constant regardless of the size of the outer diameter of the drill, thereby achieving consistent performance of the drill despite change in the outer diameter of the drill.

  • Publication number: 20200254538
Abstract: An end mill having an eccentric flat relief formed thereon is proposed. The eccentric flat relief (simply referred to as “ELF”) includes at least three flat relief surfaces continuously arranged along a trajectory of an eccentric relief. Accordingly, the end mill, which combines strengths of the flat relief and an eccentric relief, has excellent rigidity and a heat discharge characteristic.

  • Publication number: 20120230789
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed toward a compound relief tap, and more specifically, to a compound relief tap with domains made of a plurality of consecutive threads where each domain has different properties associated with variable thread parameters and variable geometrical arrangements such a variation of a taper angle and relief angles for different portions of domain threads or between domains. In a first embodiment, all of the threads in a domain have a given geometrical arrangement. In a second embodiment, several of the threads of the domain possess the geometrical arrangement. In a third embodiment, only the thread of the domain possesses the geometrical arrangement. And in a fourth embodiment, alternative threads in the domain possess the geometrical arrangement. What is also contemplated is a variation in geometrical arrangement between successive domains for any of these threaded domains.

  • Publication number: 20110076107
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a dual technology relief tap, and more specifically, to a relief tap where a segment on the threaded portion has a first type of relief and the remainder of the threads have a second type of relief or a concentric thread to limit tilt and loosening and ultimately to prevent overfeed or underfeed. In some embodiments, a neutral, negative, positive, convex, or other type of relief is applied generally to most of the threaded portion with or without concentric threads, and a second type of relief of any type, such as a neutral, a negative, a positive, a convex, or other relief, is applied to some selected threads. In another embodiment, the second type of relief is applied to the first threads after the chamfer or are spaced regularly over the threaded surface.

  • Patent number: 7563059
Abstract: It is the object of the present disclosure to provide an improved end mill that can be easily manufactured, reduces cutting forces on the driving tool, limits chatter at high rotation speeds, has better stability, produces smoother cutting surfaces, and has less natural resonating frequencies while in use to permit operation of the end mill over a wider range of operating conditions. The end mill is equipped with a series of sinusoidal cutting edges with a single long pitch arranged regularly or irregularly along the circumferential cutting surface. In another embodiment, the pitch, the cutting angle of the datum line of the sinusoidal cutting edges and the amplitude of the sinusoidal function can be varied.
