    Abstract: The sweet-tasting substances contained in the roots of plants of the genus Periandra were isolated and found to consist essentially of four species of novel glycosides, which were respectively named Periandrins I, II, III and IV. The Periandrins are defined by chemical formulas as well as their physical and chemical properties and are useful, for example, as natural sweetening agents.
