  • Patent number: 8393714
Abstract: A printhead is provided having a plurality of ejection nozzles defined on a substrate, each nozzle having a fluid chamber and ejection port, a plurality of supply channels defined through the substrate, a plurality of feed channels connecting the supply channels to the chambers thereby supplying fluid from the supply channels to the chambers, and a plurality of ejection actuators positioned in respective ones of the chambers for causing ejection of the supplied fluid from the ejection ports. Each feed channel is long and narrow relative to the dimensions of the ejection nozzles such that the fluid in the chamber is restricted from flowing into the feed channels during fluid ejection by viscous drag generated in the feed channels.

  • Patent number: 8393703
Abstract: A method of generating half tone print data is disclosed. The method starts by determining an extent of overlap caused by temperature variations of overlapping end portions of a pair of consecutive printhead segments. A dither value is also generated from a dither matrix, and the dither value is combined with the extent of overlap to produce an output value. A mathematical operation is performed on continuous tone print data based on the output value, to produce the half tone print data.

  • Patent number: 8388111
Abstract: A method of printing at a dot density exceeding a nozzle density in a stationary pagewidth printhead. The method includes the steps of: (i) advancing a print medium transversely past the stationary printhead at a rate of one line per one line-time; and (ii) firing droplets of ink from predetermined nozzles in a nozzle row to create successive lines of print. Some or all of the predetermined nozzles fire droplets of ink at a plurality of predetermined different dot positions along a longitudinal axis of the printhead during one line-time, such that the printed dot density in each line of print exceeds the nozzle density.

  • Patent number: 8382268
Abstract: An ink cartridge supplies an inkjet printhead by forming a sealed engagement with an inlet on the printhead. The ink cartridge has an ink storage volume, an outlet opening in fluid communication with the ink storage volume, an outlet valve for connection to an inlet on the inkjet printhead, the outlet valve having a radially extending flange portion fixed within the outlet opening and, an annular skirt of resilient material extending from the outlet opening to the flange portion. The resilient material elastically biases part of the annular skirt into sealing engagement with the flange portion to close the outlet valve. Engagement with the inlet on the printhead during installation of the ink cartridge, compresses the annular skirt to open the outlet valve such that ink flows from the ink storage volume around the radially extending flange portion to the printhead.
