Patents Assigned to ZBD Displays Ltd
  • Patent number: 8470411
Abstract: A photopolymer mixture is capable of use for a liquid crystal alignment layer. An alignment layer is formed from such a photopolymer mixture. The mixture comprises at least two polymerisable materials which are blended together in proportion so as to give a predetermined, preferably low, surface energy. A low surface energy, e.g., less than 4×10?2 N/m, can result in an alignment layer which imparts a particular orientation to liquid crystal molecules with out requiring any post-cure treatments. The polymerisable materials may be monomers, oligomers, or diluents that form long chain molecules when cured, and the mixture may contain additives to lower the overall surface energy.

  • Publication number: 20100106588
Abstract: A display system 10 for displaying information at a point of product display in a retail outlet comprising a communicator 12 for transmitting display information to a remote display module 18, the display module 18 being adapted in a first, low power mode to display information and in a second, higher power mode periodically, in a predetermined manner, to communicate with the communicator 12, the system 10 preferably being configured to enable determination of the accuracy and automated correction of the synchronisation of a periodic communication between the communicator 12 and the display module 18 while the display module 18 continues to switch between first and second modes of operation enabling a low overall consumption of power by the display module 18 and more preferably wherein the display module 18 is adapted to switch between first and second power modes between receipt of a synchronisation signal and a display information signal from the communicator 12.

  • Patent number: 7019795
Abstract: A liquid crystal device is provided that comprises a layer of liquid crystal material (2) disposed between two cell walls (4, 6) in an arrangement such that the liquid crystal material (2) can adopt any one of two or more stable liquid crystal configurations that will persist in the absence of an applied electric field. The liquid crystal device is operable in two modes; a first mode in which application of an appropriate latching voltage pulse can select any one of the two or more stable liquid crystal configurations, and a second mode in which application of an electric field can switch the layer of liquid crystal material from a latched configuration to a switched configuration and in which the layer of liquid crystal material will return to said latched configuration when the applied electric field is removed.
