  • Patent number: 8486079
Abstract: A method and apparatus for remote alignment of a cut guide. The cut guide may be positioned on a base which is remote from a surgical site and positioned on a docking station. An alignment jig is removably positioned on a bone and is used to provide alignment information to the docking station. The docking station remotely aligns the cut guide relative to the base. Thereafter, the cut guide and base are removed from the docking station and positioned on the bone in place of the alignment jig. A surgical procedure using the cut guide may then be completed.

  • Publication number: 20130178947
Abstract: An orthopaedic implant for filling a bone void and a method of using the same. The orthopaedic implant comprises an open porous metal portion and a bone cement portion. At a first surface region, the open porous metal portion facilitates bone and/or soft tissue ingrowth into the pores of the first surface region of the open porous metal. At a second surface region, the open porous metal facilitates reception of the bone cement into the pores of the second surface region of the open porous metal. The open porous metal portion of the orthopaedic implant may also be formed of a plurality of porous metal fragments aggregated together with the cement portion of the orthopaedic implant. Additionally, the orthopaedic implant may be pliable and thereby capable of being molded to the shape of a void in a bone.

  • Patent number: 8480715
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a spinal implant system and method. One embodiment of the present invention includes a spinal implant comprising, a first implant plate, a second implant plate, a spacer member coupled between the first implant plate and the second implant plate and an end plate coupled to the spacer member, the end plate configured to couple to adjacent vertebrae. The implant plates can include spacer channels that receive the spacer member and insertion tool channels that receive an insertion tool. Preferably, on each implant plate, the spacer channel is near the center of the plate and the insertion tool channels are on either side of the spacer channel. The spacer channels and insertion tool channels can be dovetailed or otherwise shaped to capture a portion of the spacer member and insertion tool. Mating connectors can prevent removal of the spacer member from the spacer channels.

  • Publication number: 20130158556
Abstract: Tools or other instruments can be used by a surgeon to complete an orthopedic procedure. One tool can include a resection tower and a valgus guide. The resection tower can include a cutting block and a dial coupled with the cutting block. The resection tower can be configured such that rotational movement of the dial, about an axis, effectuates movement of the cutting block along a plane substantially parallel with the axis. The dial, when rotated in a first direction, can move between a first position, which corresponds to a minimum cutting depth of the cutting block, and a second position, which corresponds to a maximum cutting depth of the cutting block. The valgus guide can be coupled with the resection tower and includes a rotatable member. The rotatable member can include an angular surface with one or more variable depth splines providing varus/valgus angle adjustment of the cutting block.
