  • Patent number: 11490965
Abstract: The subject matter includes systems, methods, and prosthetic devices for joint reconstruction surgery. A computer-assisted intraoperating planning method can include accessing a first medical image providing a first view of a joint within a surgical site as well as receiving selection of a first component of a modular prosthetic device implanted in the first bone of the joint. The method continues by displaying a graphical representation of the first component of the modular prosthetic device overlaid on the first medical image, and updating a graphical representation of the first component based on receiving positioning inputs representative of an implant location of the first component relative to landmarks on the first bone visible within the first medical image. The method concludes by presenting a selection interface enabling visualization of additional components of the modular prosthetic device virtually connected to the first component and overlaid on the first medical image.

  • Patent number: 11490902
Abstract: A method of creating a patient specific instrument (PSI) for use in knee replacement surgery is described which includes using a digital bone model generated using at least two two-dimensional X-ray scans of a bone, each of the X-ray scans being taken from different angular positions. Locations for one or more anchor points on the PSI which are adapted to abut a surface of the bone are determined, the determined locations of the anchor points being disposed on the PSI at locations corresponding to areas of expected high accuracy on the digital bone model generated by the X-ray scans. The areas of expected high accuracy include at least a peripheral bone contour in at least one of the angular position of the X-ray scans. A method of positioning a surgical guide using such a PSI is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11471288
Abstract: An orthopaedic tibial prosthesis includes a tibial baseplate sized and shaped to cover substantially all of a resected proximal tibial surface, and a tibial bearing component sized to leave a posteromedial portion of the tibial baseplate exposed when the tibial bearing component is mounted to the baseplate. The exposed posteromedial portion of the tibial baseplate includes a chamfered profile which cooperates with a correspondingly chamfered profile at a posteromedial edge of the tibial bearing component to create a substantially continuous chamfer extending from the resected tibial surface to the medial articular surface of the tibial bearing component. Advantageously, this chamfer leaves an absence of material (i.e., a relief or void) at the posteromedial edge of the tibial prosthesis, thereby enabling deep flexion of the prosthesis without impingement between the tibial prosthesis and adjacent anatomic tissues or prosthetic structures.

  • Patent number: 11440118
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for manufacturing an orthopedic prosthesis by resistance welding a porous metal layer of the orthopedic prosthesis onto an underlying metal substrate of the orthopedic prosthesis. The resistance welding process involves directing an electrical current through the porous layer and the substrate, which dissipates as heat to cause softening and/or melting of the materials, especially along the interface between the porous layer and the substrate. The softened and/or melted materials undergo metallurgical bonding at points of contact between the porous layer and the substrate to fixedly secure the porous layer onto the substrate.
