Patent number: 9498068Abstract: Removable massage modules provide a mattress with a massage function. The mattress is compressed and shipped in a packing box with the massage modules separate from the mattress. The end customer then inserts the massage modules. The mattress has a bottom foam layer with cavities whose walls are perpendicular to the outer surface of the foam layer. Each massage module includes a massage motor encased in molded foam. The molded foam is attached to a foam section with cylindrical holes that pass from an outer side to the molded foam and allow hot air to escape the massage motor. The top and bottom sides of each massage module have the shape formed by the walls of the cavities. The massage modules are connected by power cords to a module controller that receives RF signals from a remote control device. The massage modules can also be inserted into a mattress topper.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2011Date of Patent: November 22, 2016Assignee: Zinus, Inc.Inventor: Youn Jae Lee

Patent number: 9474382Abstract: An assemblable mattress support can be shipped with all of its components compactly packed into the headboard. The mattress support includes a foldable longitudinal bar, a lateral bar, side panels, wooden slats, block legs and a footboard, all of which fit inside a compartment in the headboard. In an assembled state of the mattress support, a first connector at one end of the longitudinal bar attaches to a third connector on the outside of the headboard. A second connector at the other end of the longitudinal bar attaches to a fourth connector on the footboard. The middle of the lateral bar connects to the middle of the longitudinal bar. The block legs are attached to the bottom sides of the headboard and footboard. The slats are attached to one another by fabric ribbons and are placed in parallel over the longitudinal bar and support ledges on the side panels.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2014Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Zinus, Inc.Inventor: Suk Kan Oh

Patent number: 9456696Abstract: A foam seating article includes an outer foam layer molded around an inner core of molded foam or expanded polystyrene that includes a lumbar support protrusion. The lumbar support protrusion has a convex outer surface disposed inside the seat back area of the outer foam layer and that is not visible on the outer contour of the seat back area. The inner core is made from polyurethane polyol and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and has a hardness greater than 25 Shore A and a density less than two pounds per cubic foot. The polymer material of the inner core has a hardness greater than that of the outer foam. The outer layer of molded foam is high density (HD) foam, memory foam or latex foam. A fabric covering encloses the inner core and molded outer foam layer. The foam seating article can be a chair, sofa, chaise lounge or bench.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2014Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignee: Zinus, Inc.Inventor: Youn Jae Lee

Patent number: 9420890Abstract: A foam seating article includes a layer of molded foam surrounding a hollow shell made of hard plastic. A fabric covering encloses the shell and molded foam. The foam seating article can take the form of a chair, stool, sofa, chaise lounge, bench or Ottoman. The hollow shell can be formed using blow molding, injection molding or by capping both ends of a tube with disks. Air pressure inside the airtight hollow shell prevents the shell from collapsing inwards under the weight of an occupant. Alternatively, the hollow shell of the seating article can be accessed through a removable lid. The seating article includes no wood or metal. The layer of molded foam includes sections of different foam types, such as high density (HD) foam, memory foam and latex foam. Molding foam around a hard plastic shell is simpler and less costly than making conventional metal or wood framed furniture.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2013Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: Zinus, Inc.Inventor: Youn Jae Lee

Patent number: 9420891Abstract: A foam seating article includes an outer layer of molded foam surrounding a solid inner core of molded foam or expanded polystyrene. The rigid foam of the inner core is made from polyurethane polyol and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). The inner core has a hardness greater than 25 Shore A and a density less than two pounds per cubic foot. The polymer material of the solid core has a hardness that is greater than that of the outer foam. The outer layer of molded foam is high density (HD) foam, memory foam or latex foam. Patent number: 9357851Abstract: A method of making foam imparts antimicrobial and antiodorant qualities to the foam. Green tea powder is added to the polyol raw materials for making memory foam. The green tea memory foam is used to make pillows, cushions and mattresses. Green tea foam in the top layer of a mattress acts as an antiodorant such that less of the chemical smell of the memory foam is perceived by the user. In addition, the bacteria and mold that would otherwise develop in the moist warmer sleeping environment on memory foam are killed by the green tea additive to the foam. Measurable antimicrobial and antiodorant qualities in the green tea foam are achievable by adding green tea powder constituting less than 2% of the weight of the resulting green tea foam. A neck-support contour pillow is made using memory foam that contains green tea and a green dye.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2014Date of Patent: June 7, 2016Assignee: Zinus, Inc.Inventor: Suk Kan Oh

Publication number: 20150091335Abstract: A compact collapsible chair includes upper tubes, leg tubes, a central tube connector and a seat back. The upper tubes are formed from detachable sections. Lower ends of the upper tubes are inserted into upper holes in the central tube connector, and upper ends of the leg tubes are inserted into lower holes in the central tube connector. Upper ends of the upper tubes fit into tube receptacles in the seat back. No part of the upper tubes other than the upper and lower ends contacts any part of the collapsible chair. The upper holes are disposed in an upper portion of the central tube connector that swivels over a lower portion into which the lower holes are bored. The upper portion and the attached upper tubes swivel about a cylinder that passes through the upper and lower portions but does not extend above or below the central tube connector.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2013Publication date: April 2, 2015Applicants: Zinus, Inc., FIMAX International Co., LtdInventor: Youn Jae Lee

Publication number: 20150091352Abstract: A collapsible beach chair includes upper tubes, leg tubes, a central tube connector, a seat back and a fabric support base. Lower ends of the upper tubes fit into upper holes in the tube connector, and upper ends of the leg tubes fit into lower holes in the tube connector. Upper ends of the upper tubes fit into first tube receptacles in the seat back, and ground ends of the leg tubes bit into second tube receptacles in the support base. The upper holes are disposed in an upper portion of the tube connector that swivels over a lower portion into which the lower holes are bored. The upper portion and the attached upper tubes swivel about a shaft that passes through the upper and lower portions but does not extend above or below the tube connector. The fabric support base prevents the leg tubes from sinking into the sand.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 17, 2014Publication date: April 2, 2015Applicants: Zinus, Inc., FIMAX International Co., Ltd.Inventor: Youn Jae Lee

Publication number: 20150089740Abstract: An adjustable, collapsible mattress support for a box spring has cross bars with slidably connected sections. A first section of each cross bar is fixedly attached to a band that folds around the second section and slides along the second section. A bolt that passes through holes in the second section slides into a slot in the band. By aligning the slot over one of the holes through which the bolt passes, the length of the cross bars can be adjusted to accommodate the widths of different sized box springs and mattresses. The first section is fixedly attached to a hinge plate. First and second bars are pivotally attached to the plate. The first and second bars pivot about parallel axes that pass through the plate at separate fixed locations and that are orthogonal to the plate. The mattress support accommodates full, Queen, California King and Eastern King sized mattresses.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2013Publication date: April 2, 2015Applicant: Zinus, Inc.Inventor: Suk Kan Oh
