  • Patent number: 5950375
Abstract: A fascia and soffit member is roll-formed from sheet metal, such as sheet aluminum, so as to have two unitary panels meeting at a juncture. One such panel, a fascia panel, extends vertically and upwardly from the juncture when the member is installed. The other panel, a soffit panel, extends horizontally from the juncture when the member is installed. The soffit panel has a distal portion spaced from the juncture and defining plural, elongate, preferential bending regions, along a selected one of which the distal portion is so as to form a wall flange that extends vertically, either upwardly or downwardly, when said member is installed. Preferably, the distal portion has a series of spaced ridges defining a series of spaced grooves, each ridge defining one of the preferential bending regions and each groove defining another of the preferential bending regions, and the ridges and the grooves collectively have a corrugated profile. In a simplified embodiment, the fascia panel is omitted.

  • Patent number: 5797220
Abstract: A fascia member and a soffit member are useful for trimming a building structure. The fascia member has a generally vertical panel and a generally horizontal flange projecting from the generally vertical panel at a lower corner. The generally horizontal flange has a locking lip extending along a distal edge. The soffit member has an edge portion having a plurality of spaced locking lips adapt to be engaged with the locking lip extending therealong. A channel member extending along the generally horizontal flange is employed for confining the edge portion of the soffit member within the channel member, when the locking lips of the edge portion of the soffit member are engaged with the locking lip extending therealong, so as to interlock fascia member mid the soffit member. The fascia member and the channel member may be a single piece or two separate pieces. In either instance, the channel member has an upper wall, an inner, vertical wall, and an upper wall.

  • Patent number: 5746077
Abstract: A machine for rolling an article, such as a rain gutter, from sheet metal dispensed from a coil comprises an elongate base having an input end, at which sheet metal dispensed from a coil is inputted into the machine, and an outlet end, at which an article rolled by the machine is outputted from the machine. An elongate track mounted on the machine and extending between those ends includes a pair of rails extending between those ends. A dispenser for mounting a coil of sheet metal and for dispensing sheet metal from the mounted coil into the machine at the input end is supported on the elongate track, via two dispenser-supporting rollers engaging each rail, so that the dispenser can be selectively positioned on the elongate track in a loading position, near the input end of the elongate base or in a dispensing position, near the output end of the elongate base. The dispenser can be releasably secured in the dispensing position.

  • Patent number: 5711117
Abstract: A generally vertical siding panel having an upper edge portion formed with at least two laterally spaced trim-engaging tabs and a generally horizontal soffit panel having a back edge portion are employed with a siding panel-trimming and soffit-panel mounting assembly comprising a supporting member and a retaining member. As extruded from a polymeric material, the supporting member has a generally vertical back panel and an upper front flange, which projects frontwardly from the back panel and overlies the back edge portion of the soffit panel. As extruded from a polymeric material, the retaining member is a separate member attached to the supporting member and has a lower front flange, which projects from the back panel and underlies the back edge portion of the soffit panel. One of the supporting and retaining members defines a hook behind the back panel.

  • Patent number: 5657585
Abstract: Being extruded in one piece from a polymeric material, such as polyvinyl chloride, and being useful with a soffit panel and with a siding panel, a combination siding panel-trimming and soffit panel-mounting member has a back panel, an upper front flange for overlying a back edge portion of a soffit panel, a lower front flange for underlying the back edge portion of the soffit panel, and a back flange for engaging an upper edge portion of the siding panel. The upper front flange projects from the back panel frontwardly, generally horizontally, and approximately at a right angle. The lower front flange projects from the back panel, has a portion projecting frontwardly and upwardly toward the upper front flange, and has a generally horizontal distal edge.

  • Patent number: 5537785
Abstract: A building fascia is disclosed, which comprises an elongate gutter and a soffit. Being made from sheet aluminum, steel, or copper, the gutter has back, bottom, and front walls and a channel extending along and into the gutter from the back or bottom wall, preferably from the back wall. Being made therefrom or from vinyl or other polymeric material, the soffit has an edge portion inserted into the channel. Lips formed on the edge portion and on one of two side walls of the channel have sufficient flexibility and are shaped to permit the edge portion to be readily inserted with a snap action but to restrain the edge portion against being withdrawn from the panel. Preferably, one of the side walls of the channel is spaced narrowly from the bottom wall of the gutter, the narrowly spaced walls flaring into the gutter so that ice forming between the narrowly spaced walls is extruded into the gutter.

  • Patent number: 4092808
Abstract: The combination eaves trough and fascia with soffit connection means comprises a generally channel-shaped upwardly opening elongated sheet metal gutter member having an upright front wall providing a fascia surface, a bottom generally horizontal wall, and an upright back wall adapted to be mounted directly on the ends of rafter tails. The gutter member is of a vertical dimension to enable it to replace a conventional fascia. An integral horizontal reinforcing rib providing a socket groove is formed directly in the sheet metal material in the lower portion of the gutter member at the juncture between the bottom wall and one of the upstanding walls of the gutter member, and the groove opens toward the back of the gutter member to receive an edge of a soffit panel which has its opposite edge portion attached to an associated building.Closing-in structure is provided for either or both ends of the gutter and soffit assembly.

  • Patent number: 3994055
Abstract: A method of preparing a rain gutter for connection of a downspout thereto comprising forming a downspout opening by partial separation of material in the gutter bottom wall, displacing material remaining integral with the bottom wall from the area of the opening into a continuous downward lip flange around the edge of the opening and a connection extension means for engagement within the upper end of a downspout aligned with the opening. The connection extension means are formed into a plurality of downwardly projecting tabs which are connected to a downspout assembled therewith by means of screws. The method can be practiced on gutters which are first hung on a building in position to remain thereon whereby the exact position required for the downspout opening can be provided with the opening and continuous lip flange and extension means.

  • Patent number: 3967452
Abstract: A rain gutter has a bottom wall prepared for connection of a downspout thereto and comprising a downspout opening in the bottom wall having a continuous downturned lip flange around the edge of the opening derived from material displaced from the area of the opening, and extension means on the lip flange, whereby the extension means and the lip flange can engage within the upper end of a downspout to maintain the downspout in alignment with the opening. The lip flange provides a funnel-like closure for the joint between the gutter bottom wall and the upper end of a downspout coupled to the gutter by means of the extension means.
