Abstract: Systems and methods of implementing multiple communication protocols for equipment of a pool or spa system using a bus are described herein. The systems and methods are further configured to coordinate messaging with the equipment using the multiple communication protocols. In an example, a system determines that a first device of equipment of the pool or spa system is associated with a first communication protocol. The system communicates with the first device via the first communication protocol. The system determines that a second device of the equipment of the pool or spa system is associated with a second communication protocol. The system communicates with the second device via the second communication protocol.

Abstract: A pool system may include a device of pool or spa equipment and a pool automation controller. The pool automation controller may include a multimode wireless radio configured to communicate with a wireless communication device of the device of equipment using a first internet protocol mode and a router in a second internet protocol mode. The pool automation controller may receive a first wireless signal when operating in the first internet protocol mode and send a second wireless signal when operating in the second internet protocol mode.

Abstract: A pool system may include a plurality of devices of equipment distributed among an area and a pool automation controller that includes a shortrange wireless communication device configured to communicate with a first wireless communication device of a first device of equipment and a second wireless communication device of a second device of equipment. The pool automation controller may determine locations within the area of the first device and the second device with respect to the pool automation controller based at least in part on a first set of characteristics of a first wireless signal and a second set of characteristics of a second wireless signal.

Abstract: A pool or spa control system includes a sensor system with one or more sensors in contact with a main body of water. The sensor system measures water condition data of the body of water and is mounted on a wall submerged in the main body of water. The pool or spa control system also includes a modem that facilitates data communications between the sensor system and communication equipment positioned at a different location from the main body of water.

Abstract: A method of self-assigning an IP address to an item of pool or spa equipment can include randomly selecting, by the item of pool or spa equipment, an IP address from a predetermined IP address range. The method can also include transmitting, by the item of pool or spa equipment, the IP address and a serial number to a target parent node. Additionally, the method can include listening, by the item of pool or spa equipment, for a broadcast topology message from the target parent node. Further, the method can include determining, by the item of pool or spa equipment, that the IP address is valid based on the broadcast topology message and, upon determining that the IP address is valid, completing a startup process by the item of pool or spa equipment.

Abstract: “Just in time” operational techniques allow equipment of swimming pools or spas to achieve identified water temperatures at specified times. A user may supply information such as a desired water temperature (i.e. a temperature set point) and a time at which the water is desired to be at the desired temperature. After receiving the user-supplied information, software may account as well for certain environmental conditions to devise a suitable schedule for controlling heating of the water of the swimming pool or spa. Adjustments may be made to the schedule based on then-current water temperatures or other changed conditions.

Abstract: Systems and techniques for guiding or advising users as to how to control motor speeds of pumping systems are detailed. The systems may solicit input from users and provide recommendations as to settings users may employ in connection with water-circulation systems of, principally, swimming pools and spas. The systems also may permit a user to retain control of both the duration the pool-filtration system will be active and the pump motor speed while providing suggestions to the user that may maximize efficiency of the system or minimize its power consumption (or both).

Abstract: Automatic swimming pool cleaners and components thereof are described. The cleaners may provide dual filtration of debris suspended in water of pools as well as a fluid path allowing some water to by-pass one of the two filters. They also may include any of all components such as multi-section inlet tubes, Venturi jets, nozzles exhausting water onto rotatable vanes, brushes, downforce turbines, and mechanisms for adjusting water flow through thrust jets or sweep tails.

Abstract: Debris filters for automatic swimming pool cleaners may be formed of metal, carbon fibers, or composites more rigid than soft nylon bags. In at least one version, the filter may be made of, or include, steel or stainless steel. Non-uniform sizes, densities, and/or shapes of openings in the filtration material may be created to provide different levels of filtration in a single device.

Abstract: A bonding lug assembly includes a bonding lug and a set screw. The bonding lug includes a body that defines a first channel and a second channel. The first channel defines a first conductor path extending in a first direction, and the second channel defines a second conductor path extending in a second direction that is different from the first direction. The set screw is configured to selectively engage the bonding lug and retain a bonding conductor within at least one of the first channel or the second channel.

Abstract: Lighting assemblies principally for swimming pools and/or spas are disclosed herein, as well as related methods. The assemblies may be used to retrofit incandescent luminaires with light emitting diodes (LEDs). No need exists to move (or remove) elongated power cords associated with the luminaires, nor to replace any Edison-style plugs of the luminaires.
