The body may be in the form of a grub or worm, and the body extension member may be in the form of a tail that extends from the rearward end of the body. Alternatively, the body may be in the form of a crayfish and a pair of body extension members, in the form of arms, may extend from the rearward end of the body. The body extension member includes first, second, and third portions. The first portion extends away from the body, and the second portion connects to the first portion. The third portion connects to the second portion and extends generally toward the body. The third portion includes a forwardly facing inner edge that may be linear, and the first and third portions preferably cooperate to form an acute angle.

Abstract: An artificial bait structure is provided which simulates movement of live bait when drawn through a body of water, and which discourages entanglement in weeds at the bottom of a lake or river. The artificial bait structure includes a head having first and second legs projecting therefrom. The legs include a plurality of nipples which are engaged by the water as the artificial bait structure is drawn therethrough, causing the legs to flutter. A rib extends along the outer edge of each leg in order to cup the water as the artificial bait structure is drawn therethrough, thereby causing the legs to repeatedly separate and come together.

Abstract: A system for imparting coloration to an artificial fishing lure formed of a soft resilient plastic material involves dispersing a large number of colored particles throughout the material. The plastic material is preferably clear, and the color of the particles imparts coloration to the material. The particles may take the form of colored short synthetic fibers, which are added to and dispersed throughout the plastic material when it is in a liquid state. The fibers are then dispersed throughout the plastic material when it is molded into the desired form for the lure.
