Abstract: A portable liquid-solid separator tank has a bed, surrounding exterior walls, a dividing wall. The exterior walls of the tank include a gasket door to allow easy removal of the filtered sludge. The exterior walls of the tank support sludge include inlet valves where the sludge is provided by a hose from a storage and/or mixing tank. The exterior walls also include a liquid outlet valve or valves for the filtered liquid to be removed and roller wheels that enable the tank to be easily transported. The tank contains a filter media mounted on a filter media support structure supported by the interior of the bed, exterior walls, and the dividing wall. The filter media support structure is composed of perforated metal supports and expanded metal supports. The use of the expanded metal supports in the filter media support structure increases the opening space in the support structure and reduces the amount of time it takes to filter the sludge.
Abstract: A method of sensing and analyzing electrical activity of the human heart comprises the sensing of voltage signals generated by the heart between four electrodes (E, A, S and I) located at key positions on the surface of a subject's body. The E electrode is attachable to the anterior midline of the subject body at a level selected from the group consisting of the fourth rib interspace and the fifth rib interspace. The A and I electrodes are attachable to the subject's body on opposed sides of the anterior midline below the level of the E electrode but high enough so they are positioned over the subject's ribs or intercostal spaces. The S electrode is positioned over the subject's manubrium sterni. Signal processing means combines and scales the voltage signals to produce xyz vectorcardiographic signals, electrocardiographic signals corresponding to the lead signals of a 12-lead electrocardiograph, or both.
Abstract: The embodiments of the invention are multiple antibody immunoassay systems, and preferably immunohistochemical staining systems. In these systems the detection antibody system that detects the association of a targeting antibody (that binds to the target moiety to be detected) may also cross-react with endogenous immunoglobulins in the specimen in which the target moiety is to be detected, yielding an unreliable assay with high background levels. This problem has been overcome by a process that includes cross-linking a monovalent antibody to the endogenous antigenic determinants prior to exposure to the targeting antibody and detecting antibody system. The embodiments of the invention also include kits for use in these multiple antibody immunoassay and histochemical staining systems.
Abstract: In a process for monitoring patients with chronic congestive heart failure, a high frequency current is passed between electrodes applied to two limbs of a patient. The current, voltage and phase angle between the measured current and voltage are measured to enable the calculation of congestive heart failure (CHF) indicia values. The calculated CHF indicia values are then compared with baseline values established when the patient is in a known, stable condition. Intervention is initiated if the differences between the calculated CHF indicia values and the baseline values are outside of established tolerances. The CHF indicia values may include resistance, reactance, impedance, total body water and extracellular water. Moreover, the CHF indicia values may include a figure of merit indicative of the hydration status of the patient.
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for adding a calibration signal with known phase-timing relationships to identify a time of onset for each input channel being monitored separately. A signal generator produces alignment signals which are introduced to a switch network in parallel with input channel signals requiring phase alignment. The signals are amplified and recorded on a tape including phase shifts and/or time delays. During playback from the tape, playback devices sense the amplified input channel signals utilizing the phase shift and/or time delay information to subsequently adjust these signals for review and analysis.
