Patent number: 11023162Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to caches that support transient storage fields for cache entries. In some embodiments, cache circuitry includes a set of multiple cache entries that each include a tag field and a data field. In some embodiments, transient storage circuitry includes a transient storage field for each of the multiple cache entries. In some embodiments, cache control circuitry stores received first data in the data field of a cache entry and stores received transient data in a corresponding transient storage field. In response to an eviction determination for the cache entry, however, the cache control circuitry may write the first data but not the transient data to a backing memory for the cache circuitry. In various embodiments, disclosed techniques may allow caching additional data that is transient without increasing bandwidth to the backing memory.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2019Date of Patent: June 1, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey T. Patent number: 11023245Abstract: Closed loop performance controllers of asymmetric multiprocessor systems may be configured and operated to improve performance and power efficiency of such systems by adjusting control effort parameters that determine the dynamic voltage and frequency state of the processors and coprocessors of the system in response to the workload. One example of such an arrangement includes applying hysteresis to the control effort parameter and/or seeding the control effort parameter so that the processor or coprocessor receives a returning workload in a higher performance state. Another example of such an arrangement includes deadline driven control, in which the control effort parameter for one or more processing agents may be increased in response to deadlines not being met for a workload and/or decreased in response to deadlines being met too far in advance. The performance increase/decrease may be determined by comparison of various performance metrics for each of the processing agents.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2019Date of Patent: June 1, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Aditya Venkataraman, Bryan R. Patent number: 11019195Abstract: A mobile device can include ranging circuitry to determine distance to another mobile device. A first wireless protocol can establish an initial communication session to perform authentication and/or exchange ranging settings. A second protocol can perform ranging, and other wireless protocols can transmit content. In one example, the distance information can be used to display a relative position of another device on a user interface of a sending device. The user interface can allow a user to quickly and accurately select the recipient device for sending the data item. As other example, the distance information obtained from ranging can be used to trigger a notification (e.g., a reminder) to be output from a first mobile device or used to display a visual indicator on a receiving device. Proximity of a device (e.g., as determined by a distance) can be used to suggest recipient for a new communication.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2019Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Brent M. Patent number: 11016938Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, are described for resolving duplicate images. In one aspect, a method includes obtaining a selection of a single image from among a plurality of duplicate images. Each duplicate image has an associated set of metadata. The method also includes aggregating each set of metadata into aggregated information, and storing the selected image together with the aggregated information on data storage accessible to a data processing apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2017Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Timothy B. Patent number: 11019273Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a method is performed at an image processing device with a processor and non-transitory memory. The method includes triggering light emission, over a first emission duration, having a characterizing intensity as a function of time. The method further includes obtaining respective pixel events, from an event camera, corresponding to reflections of the light emission during the first emission duration, each respective pixel event corresponding to a breach of a respective comparator threshold indicative of a brightness level, each respective pixel event characterized by a respective electrical threshold value and a timestamp at which the respective electrical threshold value was breached.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2018Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Aleksandr M. Patent number: 11016658Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media related to a technique for providing handwriting input functionality on a user device. A handwriting recognition module is trained to have a repertoire comprising multiple non-overlapping scripts and capable of recognizing tens of thousands of characters using a single handwriting recognition model. The handwriting input module provides real-time, stroke-order and stroke-direction independent handwriting recognition for multi-character handwriting input. In particular, real-time, stroke-order and stroke-direction independent handwriting recognition is provided for multi-character, or sentence level Chinese handwriting recognition. User interfaces for providing the handwriting input functionality are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2019Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Mei-Qun Xia, Jannes G. Dolfing, Ryan S. Dixon, Karl M. Groethe, Karan Misra, Jerome R. Bellegarda, Ueli Meier

Patent number: 11017608Abstract: An electronic device, while displaying a first user interface region and a first media item, detects a first input corresponding to a sharing user interface. In response, the device displays the sharing user interface, which includes a second user interface object for initiating a process for displaying a second representation of a first media item in an augmented reality environment. In response to detecting a sequence of one or more inputs including selection of the second user interface object, the device displays the second representation of the first media item in a second user interface that includes content of at least a portion of a field of view of the device's one or more cameras.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2020Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Grant R. Patent number: 11019294Abstract: An image sensor for an electronic device can adjust a scan rate of a reset pointer of a frame relative to a scan rate of a readout pointer of a previous frame. As a result, the image sensor can transition between various readout modes without interrupting image output from the image sensor.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2018Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Andrew Kenneth John McMahon

Patent number: 11018862Abstract: A relay service can relay messages between controllers and electronically controllable accessory devices that may be located remotely from the controllers. Relaying of messages by the relay service can be decoupled from any knowledge of the functionality of the accessory or the content of the messages. Device identification and relaying of messages can be managed using “relay aliases” that are meaningful only to the relay service and the endpoint devices (the controller and accessory). The endpoint devices can implement end-to-end security for messages transported by the relay service.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2018Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Anush G. Patent number: 11016913Abstract: In one embodiment, a cache coherent system includes one or more agents (e.g. coherent agents) that may cache data used by the system. The system may include a point of coherency in a memory controller in the system, and thus the agents may transmit read requests to the memory controller to coherently read data. The point of coherency may determine if the data is cached in another agent, and may transmit a copy back request to the other agent if the other agent has modified the data. The system may include an interconnect between the agents and the memory controller. At a point on the interconnect at which traffic from the agents converges, a copy back response may be converted to a fill for the requesting agent.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2020Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Harshavardhan Kaushikkar, Christopher D.
