The present invention is an image reading apparatus that irradiates an object placed on a read table with light by using an irradiation unit, captures an image of the object by using an image capturing unit, and reads an image of the object, and the image reading apparatus includes: a measurement unit configured to measure a shape of the object; and a correction unit configured to correct an amount of light with which the irradiation unit irradiates the object based on image data of the object acquired by performing the image capturing while the irradiation unit is irradiating the object with light, and on the results of the measurement.
