  • Patent number: 10981232
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to additive manufacturing systems and methods on a large-scale format. One aspect involves a build unit that can be moved around in three dimensions by a positioning system, building separate portions of a large object. The build unit has an energy directing device that directs, e.g., laser or e-beam irradiation onto a powder layer. In the case of laser irradiation, the build volume may have a gasflow device that provides laminar gas flow to a laminar flow zone above the layer of powder. This allows for efficient removal of the smoke, condensates, and other impurities produced by irradiating the powder (the “gas plume”) without excessively disturbing the powder layer. The build unit may also have a recoater that allows it to selectively deposit particular quantities of powder in specific locations over a work surface to build large, high quality, high precision objects.

  • Patent number: 10981196
Abstract: A silicone bond coat composition having a viscosity of less than 1,600 centistokes is applied to substantially all external surfaces of the article and then cured. A liquid silicone elastomer outer coat composition comprising a high viscosity first liquid silicone elastomer formulation and a low viscosity second liquid silicone elastomer formulation is then applied and cured to provide a protected article having a complex shape. Optimal coatings result from a careful balancing of component viscosities. In an embodiment, the first formulation has a viscosity greater than 300,000 centistokes, and the second formulation has a viscosity less than 6,000 centistokes, and the liquid silicone elastomer outer coat composition comprises from about 60 to about 40 percent by weight of the first formulation and from about 40 to about 60 percent by weight of the second liquid silicone elastomer formulation.

  • Patent number: 10986352
Abstract: Although wedgelet-based partitioning seems to represent a better tradeoff between side information rate on the one hand and achievable variety in partitioning possibilities on the other hand, compared to contour partitioning, the ability to alleviate the constraints of the partitioning to the extent that the partitions have to be wedgelet partitions, enables applying relatively uncomplex statistical analysis onto overlaid spatially sampled texture information in order to derive a good predictor for the bi-segmentation in a depth/disparity map. Thus, in accordance with a first aspect it is exactly the increase of the freedom which alleviates the signaling overhead provided that co-located texture information in form of a picture is present. Another aspect pertains the possibility to save side information rate involved with signaling a respective coding mode supporting irregular partitioning.

  • Patent number: 10982557
Abstract: A turbine blade includes a blade having a first end, and a second end opposite the first end. A tip is located at an outer radial portion of the blade. A blade dovetail complements a corresponding dovetail slot in a turbine rotor. The dovetail has a body, and a plurality of projections extending from the body in opposing directions for complementing a plurality of recesses in the corresponding dovetail slot. A tapered groove extends through the body from the first end to the second end. The tapered groove has a tapered profile such that a first depth of the tapered groove near the first end is greater than a second depth of the tapered groove near the second end. The tapered profile gradually transitions from the first depth to the second depth, so that the tapered groove is open at a bottom surface and sized to engage a shim.

  • Patent number: 10983505
Abstract: Some embodiments facilitate creation of an industrial asset item via an additive manufacturing process wherein motion is provided between a build plate and a print arm. A correction engine may receive, from an industrial asset item definition data store containing at least one electronic record defining the industrial asset item, the data defining the industrial asset item. A correction engine computer processor may then correct the motion provided between the build plate and the print arm such that the motion deviates from a path indicated by the data defining the industrial asset item. The three-dimension printer may be a rotary printer such that the build plate rotates about a vertical axis and moves along the vertical axis during printing. In these cases, a pre-compensation algorithm may be applied to correct the motion provided between the build plate and the print arm before transmitting data to the three-dimensional additive manufacturing printer.
