  • Patent number: 7133855
Abstract: It is objective of the invention to provide a highly reliable control apparatus and method which reduces the amount of calculation required for both learning of an input/output relationship and actual control as well as prevent inappropriate outputs from being generated for inputs which have been never learned. According to one aspect of the invention, pairs of an input pattern vector for learning and a target output are distributed to a class based on the target output. Then, a correspondence between each element of the input pattern vector for learning and the target output is learned only in that class, and a distribution function is calculated for distributing a new input pattern vector for learning to that class. After the completion of this learning, the distribution function is used to determine which class a new input pattern vector detected by a sensor belongs to. Finally, an output is calculated according to the learning result of that class.

  • Patent number: 7132923
Abstract: A memory rewriting system for a vehicle controller is provided. The system comprises a vehicle controller and an external rewriting device. A vehicle controller comprises a rewritable memory storing first security data. The first security data is used to determine whether rewriting to the rewritable memory is permitted. The rewriting device transfers new security data to the vehicle controller. The vehicle controller deletes the first security data and writes the new security data into the rewritable memory. Rewriting the new security data is performed by a program stored in a non-rewritable memory. Thus, the security data that is used to determine whether rewriting to the rewitable memory is permitted is rewritten with the new security data. Therefore, if the existing security data stored in the vehicle controller is invalidated, the security feature of the vehicle can be recovered. The vehicle may includes an anti-theft system.

  • Patent number: 7127930
Abstract: A pressing apparatus includes a lower die (24) fixed to a lower plate (11), and first and second plate (11), and first and second upper die punches (33 and 34) capable of being lifted and lowered along with an upper plate (12). The first upper die punch (33) supported by a spring (49) is capable of being lifted and lowered relative to the second upper die punch (34). The upper plate (12) is lifted and lowered, while intermittently feeding a band-shaped work (W) one pitch by one pitch from the right to the left along an upper surface of the lower die (24), thereby pressing the work (W) to form grooves in the work (W) continuously. When the groove is formed in the work (W) by pressing the work (W) by the second upper die punch (34), the groove formed at the last time by pressing the work (W) by the second upper die punch (34) is retained and positioned between the first upper die punch (33) and the lower die (24).

  • Patent number: 7128194
Abstract: A centrifugal clutch for a vehicle for reducing the trouble occuring when the clutch capacity becomes insufficient due a modification to the vehicle, such that of increasing the engine output or the exhaust gas quantity. The clutch weight of the centrifugal clutch is assembled by stacking a set of five sheets of clutch weight component members, three of which have similar structures. Each clutch weight component member is composed of two formed portions, the portions formed by baking two kinds of sintered metallic powders differing in specific gravity. Portions away from a fulcrum of inclination are formed by baking the sintered metallic powder having a larger specific gravity. Portions near the fulcrum of inclination are formed by baking the sintered metallic powder having a smaller specific gravity. As a result, the center of gravity of the clutch weight is positioned near a tip portion of the weight.

  • Patent number: 7125617
Abstract: Before a phosphoric acid fuel cell generates electric energy, a cathode is supplied with a hydrogen gas (fuel gas) and air (oxygen-containing gas) to cause a reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. At this time, the hydrogen and the oxygen are caused to react with each other under a condition in which the concentration of phosphoric acid at the time the amount of water produced by the reaction (liquid water) for reducing the concentration of phosphoric acid and the amount of water evaporated from phosphoric acid are in equilibrium is equal to or greater than a reference phosphoric acid concentration which is capable of keeping the fuel cell at a desired performance level. The temperature of an electrolyte electrode assembly of the fuel cell is increased by the heat which is generated by the reaction.

  • Patent number: 7124015
Abstract: The present invention provides a control apparatus for a plant, which can suppress excessive correction for a spiky disturbance being applied and maintain a good controllability, when controlling the plant, which is a controlled object, with the self-tuning regulator. A detected equivalent ratio KACT is input to a high-pass filter 33, and a high-pass filter output KACTHP is input to a parameter adjusting mechanism 42. The parameter adjusting mechanism 42 calculates a corrected updating vector (KID·d?(k)) by multiplying an updating component d? of a model parameter vector by a correction coefficient KID, and adds the corrected updating vector to a preceding value ?(k?1) of the model parameter vector, to thereby calculate a present value ?(k). The correction coefficient KID is changed from “1.0” to a value near “0” upon detection of the spiky response where an absolute value of the high-pass filter output KACTHP increases.

Abstract: In a fuel cell assembly typically with a plurality of cells each including an electrolyte layer (2), a pair of gas diffusion electrode layers (3, 4), and a pair of flow distribution plates (5), the electrolyte layer (2) comprises a frame (21) and electrolyte (22) retained in the frame; and the flow distribution plates and frames are made of materials having similar thermal expansion properties so that the generation of thermal stress between the frames of the electrolyte layers and the corresponding flow distribution plates can be avoided, and the durability of the various components can be ensured. By joining each flow distribution plate with the corresponding frame by anodic bonding or using a bonding agent along a periphery thereof, the need for a sealing arrangement such as a gasket or a clamping arrangement can be eliminated, and this contributes to the compact design of the assembly.

Abstract: A temporary operation path is set by connecting a plurality of welding points in a virtual space generated by a computer to investigate whether an end effector can be operated along the temporary operation path. If the operation cannot be operated, a path to avoid interference with a workpiece is set automatically while extracting a portion in which the workpiece exists in the internal space surrounded by the end effector in order to set a narrow-area operation path for withdrawing the end effector from a welding point. Next, in order to set a wide-area operation path for making movement between withdrawing points, a template operation is applied, in which the end effector is moved by a prescribed distance in a prescribed direction.

  • Patent number: 7108813
Abstract: An improved two-step replication process for fabrication of porous metallic membranes is provided. A negative of a porous non-metallic template is made by infiltration of a liquid precursor into the template, curing the precursor to form a solid negative, and removing the template to expose the negative. Metal is deposited to surround the exposed negative. Removal of the negative provides a porous metallic membrane having pores which replicate the pores of the original template membrane. The negative is kept immersed in a liquid at all times between removing the template and depositing the metal. This immersion eliminates damage to the negative that would be incurred in drying the negative out between these processing steps. Another aspect of the invention is metallic membranes prepared according to the preceding method. For example, metallic membranes having pores smaller on one side than on the other side of the membrane are provided.

Abstract: A starter motor is prevented from being rotated together with an engine after the start of a engine. When motor speed exceeds the cranking speed after the start of the engine, a speed judging section 36 judges that the starter motor is rotated together with the engine. A current-supply stopping section 38 commands to stop energizing a motor 3a in response to the judge. After the electricity supply is stopped, if the rotation speed is reduced to a value close to the cranking speed, judging section 36 outputs a signal to cancel the current-supply stopping commands from the current-supply stopping section 38. The detection of the motor speed is also continued even after the ignition, and if the speed is further increased, the speed detection is stopped. If the speed is increased to a value showing complete explosion, the speed judging section 36 switches the relays to a generator.
