  • Patent number: 5689436
Abstract: While a image is displayed on a color monitor 44 based on a first digital video signal DRGB1 output from a first A-D converter 52, a second digital video signal DRGB2 output from a second A-D converter 54 is compressed to capture the image. The image represented by the compressed video data has a smaller size than the original image. In restoration of the image, a video decompressing unit 66 enlarges the size of the image and displays an enlarged image on the color monitor 44.

  • Patent number: 5687168
Abstract: A link state routing device reduces amount of link state information exchanged in a network irrespective of number of links connecting between adjacent switches. Hello protocol portion detects adjacent switches in the network, to which respective of links are connected. A link abstracted portion obtains an abstracted link by virtually aggregating a plurality of links connected to the same switch, and generates a link state with respect to abstracted link with uniting link state information of a plurality of links. The link state update protocol portion has link topology information synchronized in the network by distributing the abstracted link state information with flooding mechanism. Since the abstracted link represents a plurality of links, information amount to be distributed can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5680388
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for dynamic allocation of multiple carrier wave channels for multiple access by frequency division multiplexing. the invention provides a number of mobile units with the possibility of flexible data speed and continuous transmission. On the fixed side, the number of transmitters and receivers can be minimized by utilizing broadband receivers which serve a number of mobiles. According to the invention, a wider frequency band is divided into a number of subbands with a modulated carrier wave in each subband. To vary the transmission speed, such a number of subbands is allocated as is needed by each user in order to cover the data clock requirement. Broadband transmitters/receivers handle the transmission over the entire accessible band. Oversampling is preferably carried out in the frequency demultiplexing in order to permit the best sampling time to be selected for the different frequency gaps (FIG. 2).

  • Patent number: 5675509
Abstract: Each of the data transmission devices 15a-15d serially and cyclically transmits all the song data over a corresponding channel, by a time cycle corresponding to the number of the song data. The four data transmission devices 15a-15d transmit the song data, at timings shifted from one another by (1/the number of channels) of the time cycle. Each terminal determines one channel out of the four channels that can most rapidly supply desired song data. Each terminal then picks up the desired song data from the determined channel.

  • Patent number: 5671224
Abstract: A method for interconnecting local area networks or network segments by means of a bridge. In the method, a local area network frame is received at the bridge and forwarded across the bridge if its destination address refers to a network or network segment on the other side of the bridge. In order that a bridge simple in structure can be utilized in cases where priority is to be assigned to terminal traffic over datafile transfer traffic, the length of the frame to be forwarded is determined for classification into a respective one of at least two categories, by length, and the obtained length classifications are utilized in the transmission of the frames for assigning priority to at least some of the shorter frames over the longer frames.

Abstract: Transmission line interfaces 300 and 400, terminal interfaces 100 and 200 and a time switch (TSW) 500 are controlled by a controller 600'. The controller 600' includes a communication means circuit 70 for communication with the controllers of other stations, a TS allotment data memory 80 accommodating ID number data provided corresponding to each path in TS allotment data describing the allotment of specific time slots (TS) to transmission lines 30 and 40, a route data table 60 accommodating route data constituted by data sets of the station numbers and ID numbers of stations until reaching of an end station for each ID number path, and route data updating means (not shown) for updating route data. Working path data can be obtained with reference to the route data.

  • Patent number: 5666350
Abstract: An apparatus codes excitation parameters for very low bit rate voice messaging using a method that processes a voice message to generating speech parameters. The speech parameters are separated (316) to produce a first group of energy parameters and a second group of pitch and voicing parameters. Subsequently, the first group of energy parameters are encoded and compressed using a non-uniform root-mean-square scalar process (318) to create a first plurality of encoded data. Additionally, the second group of pitch and voicing parameters are compressed, encoded, and combined into a single parameter using a three slope vector encoding process (320) that creates a second plurality of encoded data. Finally, the first and second plurality of encoded data are multiplexed (322) to create a multiplexed signal for transmission, the multiplexed signal representing the voice message.

  • Patent number: 5666366
Abstract: A synchronization method for synchronizing a plurality of base stations in a TDMA communication system is disclosed. The synchronization topology may be via dedicated hardwire, via any DSL from the PSTN, or via an ad-hoc RF synchronization technique. Slots containing data are arranged in frames and these frames are transmitted to the base stations, and received from the base stations, by wireless telephone handsets. Each of the slots in a frame have a guard field comprising a plurality of guard bits. The base stations derive frame sync pulses via the received Unique Word correlation detect. These derived frame sync pulses are ultimately synchronized with frame sync signals received from the master base station.

  • Patent number: 5651005
Abstract: Described herein is an ATM switch having a plurality of switch ports for connection to a public ATM network and to a plurality of data handlers. Each data handler is configured to supply respective portions of a continuous data stream to a requesting end-point device through the public ATM network. To request a particular continuous data stream, an end-point device sends a request to a controller associated with the data handlers, rather to each of the individual data handlers. The controller in the preferred embodiment is a dedicated computer, although it is also possible to designate one of the data handlers to perform the functions of the controller. In response to receiving a request from an end-point device, the controller establishes a multipoint-to-point virtual connection between the end-point device and the data handlers which will supply portions of the requested continuous data stream.

  • Patent number: 5629929
Abstract: A receiver performs rapid adaptive interference canceling for use in despreading multiple CDMA channels sharing the same RF front end. The receiver includes a buffer (22) for providing for overlapping time samples and rate adaptation, a windowing function (24) for improving interference rejection capability and a FFT (26) for calculating the input power spectrum. The receiver further includes a circuit (28, 30) to whiten the input power spectrum. The whitened power spectrum is multiplied (32) against the frequency domain version of different spreading sequences and the inverse FFT (40) of the product is performed. The output of this inverse FFT is buffered (44) to provide multiple despread output channels, with a plurality of code phases for further processing.

  • Patent number: 5615213
Abstract: In a communication network having multiple transmission channels, digital data comprising messages sufficiently short to be treated as packet messages are not sent over the network channels ordinarily used for message transmission, but instead are sent over network channels typically used for out-of-band signaling. Each data message is prepared and its length is checked for suitability as a message packet. If the data message can be packaged as a message packet, it is sent over the flat rate network channel. If the message cannot be packaged as a message packet, then it is sent according to conventional message transmission techniques for the network. The channel selection scheme can be implemented in a system that utilizes the Integrated Services Data Network (ISDN), such that data messages are checked to determine if they can be sent over the ISDN D channel rather than over the more conventionally used ISDN B channel.
