Abstract: When cutting the successive weft lengths after they have been inserted into the weaving shed, the tail ends are retained in a clamping device. Thereby shifting the weft lengths in the winding direction of the cloth is difficult. According to the invention this disadvantage is removed in that the clamping device comprises a stationary clamping element and a movable clamping element cooperating therewith and movable in the direction of the beating up movement of the reed.

Abstract: A device is provided for efficiently directing nonrotating cooling air into a rotating turbine rotor. The device employs a nozzle to accelerate the cooling air in the direction of rotor rotation. A diffuser-deswirler then directs this air, with curved and expanding flow passages, into corresponding holes in the turbine rotor. With these elements, the device directs the cooling air into the rotating rotor section without significant pressure losses and with a lower resultant cooling air temperature.
Abstract: A baseball protection device for attachment to a baseball glove includes a multi-layered shielding portion for protecting the wrist and lower forearm of one who wears the glove. It also includes a stretchable fabric sewn to outermost side edges of the shielding portion such that the shielding portion and fabric together encircle the wrist and forearm. The shielding portion is formed from two separate but attached sections sewn together along a seam extending lengthwise of the wrist and forearm. Each section has a pad of pliable, shock-absorbent material and a sheet of hard, semi-rigid material superimposed on top of the pad. The pad and sheet are encased in a durable material. The device is provided with a plurality of eyelets at a forward end thereof for detachably fastening the device to a heel portion of the glove using the existing glove lacing.
Abstract: The heating equipment includes an auxiliary heating apparatus having a space heater mounted within an air recirculating furnace system for heating air therein. A thermostat responds to a first predetermined ambient temperature to activate the space heater for heating air within the furnace system. A conduit, connected electrically between the output of the thermostat and the air recirculating blower of the furnace system, sends an electrical signal to the blower to activate it when the thermostat is energized upon the ambient temperature falling below the first predetermined temperature.

The compounds have the property of inhibiting calcium induced contraction of the smooth muscle.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing snow at marginal ambient temperatures while at the same time eliminating compressed air line freeze-up and oil contamination. Compressed air is delivered from a compressor to a cooling tower wherein oil particles and condensate are removed from the stream of compressed air. The oil particles and condensate-free compressed air stream is then delivered to a cryogenic unit wherein the air is contacted in heat exchange relationship with a liquefied gas so as to supercool the air stream which is then delivered to snow-making apparatus.

Abstract: A process is described for preparing 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethylbenzofuran-7-ol (I), which is a useful intermediary in the preparation of Carbofuran, a known multi-functional insecticide. The process consists essentially of reacting the pyrocatechol and a methallylhalide in an inert organic solvent in the presence of a solid inorganic base and a suitable catalyst, to obtain o.methallyloxyphenol with high conversion and high selectivity; this product is thermally transposed to o.methallylpyrocatechol, which is finally cyclized to the product (I) by heterogeneous catalysis in the presence of solid acid catalysts. All stages of the process can be carried out in a single reaction medium, without separating intermediate products.

Abstract: A rotary drum 2 is provided with vanes 26 extending longitudinally thereof defining passages 21 therebetween with gas to be fed to the reactor being fed only to those of the passages 21 the outlets from which into the reactor are covered by the solid material 20 being tumbled therein. Within this arrangement it can be ensured that the hot gases being used to treat the solid materials can be passed through the solid material as it is being tumbled in the reactor with the reactor being capable of accepting a large range of different materials with a variation of particle and lump size. The reactor in its preferred exemplary form is used for starved air incineration of waste materials, the gas supply means being used to supply gas in an amount insufficient to complete the reaction in the drum such that combustible gases leave the outlet end for use in the burner 10 used to provide the hot gases to the reactor drum.
Abstract: The ribbon loom comprises a weft thread insertion needle arranged at one side of the warp threads for inserting at least one loop or bight of a weft thread into the weaving or loom shed formed by the warp threads. The weft thread insertion needle has a longitudinal slit throughout almost its entire length. The weft thread insertion needle is also provided with a hook which, exterior to the longitudinal slit, is located at least approximately in the plane of motion of the weft thread insertion needle and is oriented toward the thread guide for the weft threads. The tip or point of the hook is arranged in the proximity of the free end of the weft thread insertion needle and points toward such free end. This results in an especially slender design of weft thread insertion needle and a reliable engagement of the weft thread or threads on the hook solely by means of the thread guide without any supplementary or auxiliary device.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of supplying feedwater to a forced flow boiler or the like as described. A positive displacement pump having a plurality of discrete pumping elements is arranged to pump feedwater from an inlet to the boiler. The pump includes bypass valves which, when open, disable the pumping action of an associated pumping element. Control means responsive to the demand for water in the boiler are arranged to disable a selected number of the pumping elements so that the rate of water supplied by the remaining elements, if operated continuously, would just exceed that required. The control means is further arranged to disable at least one of the remaining pumping elements on a periodic basis so that the ratio of time that the element is enabled to the time for one period multiplied by the water flow rate supplied by said element, if operated continuously, equals the difference between the total demand for water and the rate supplied by the pumping elements enabled on a full-time basis.
