  • Patent number: 6095565
Abstract: A bookmark and pocket assembly for books, where a pocket allows a bookmark to be releasbly secured to the book by slidably inserting it into the pocket. The assembly is generally rectangular in shape and has the bookmark detachably joined on one side to the pocket by a bookmark tear line, and a binding panel detachably joined on another side by a binding tear line. The bookmark has an area defined for an advertisement or aesthetic design and the pocket has a front panel foldably joined to a rear panel. The front panel has an adhesive pattern so that when the rear panel is folded on to the front panel, a recess is formed in generally the same shape and size of the bookmark. The rear panel has a rear adhesive pattern on a back surface for attachment to a book surface and a backing sheet covering the adhesive over its extremities. The binding panel serves and an interface for binding the assembly as an insert to a spine of the book, where the book will then be shipped for resale.

  • Patent number: 6092843
Abstract: A license plate decal is provided on a folded (e.g. Z-folded) business form which acts as a carrier for the decal. A cut out is formed in a panel of the mailer and a patch (such as a glassine patch) is adhesively secured at a peripheral portion to the mailer panel and a release coating is provided on at least a significant part of the central portion of the patch. The decal adhesive engages the release coating so that the decal and its associated pressure sensitive adhesive may be readily removed from the patch. The patch may be secured to the paper on either face thereof; if secured at the bottom face, the patch and decal can flex into the cutout to provide a minimum thickness when in a stack of mailer intermediates. Where the patch is secured at its top face, the maximum thickness of the patch and decal combination is preferably about 0.008 inches, which is significantly less than the thickness at the decal in prior art carriers.

  • Patent number: 6089614
Abstract: A security device comprises a substrate (1) having a viewing region (3) which is provided on one side with first indicia (7) and on the other side with second indicia (9) overlying the first indicia. The substrate carries an obscuring material (10) aligned with the second indicia (9) so as to prevent at least the second indicia from being viewed from the one side of the substrate under reflected radiation. The substrate is sufficiently transparent while the obscuring material permits the passage of sufficient transmitted radiation to allow the second indicia (9) to be viewed from the one side of the substrate under transmission conditions.

  • Patent number: 6089777
Abstract: An index divider sheet assembly including a divider sheet having a tab on a sheet edge and a strip removably attached to the divider sheet and extending out from the sheet edge. A printable strip has a first strip portion attached to and flat on a first face of the tab and a second strip portion separated from the first strip portion by a fold line. The assembly is fed into a printer or copier with the second strip portion releasably secured to and flat on the removable strip. The printer or copier prints (mirror-image) indicia on the first and second strip portions. After this printing operation, the removable strip is manually removed from the sheet and from the second strip portion. The second strip portion is then folded backward on the fold line and secured with its adhesive to the opposite second face of the tab.

  • Patent number: 6089611
Abstract: A transactional control system, a promotional system, and a redemption system including a set of a card and a removable and reusable label. The removable and reusable label having a first side printed with indicia thereon, and a second side coated with a reusable adhesive layer suitable for affixing the label to either a first or a second planar side of the card. The label, printed with a registration indicia thereon, can be removed from the transaction card without leaving residue on the card and can be affixed to a registration form for registration of a holder of the transaction card. Alternatively, the label printed with a redeemable coupon indicia thereon, can be removed from a promotion card and affixed to a transaction receipt for associating a particular transaction with the redeemable coupon. In another embodiment the label is printed and scored to form individually removable segments which can be removed from the redemption card and redeemed.

  • Patent number: 6082769
Abstract: A clip for securing cut sheets of image bearing medium to a notebook or picture book is provided that has an inverted U-shape. The clip is made of an elastic material that has a latch on either end to attach to a cavity in either a notebook, picture book, or similar device. The clip can be made symmetrically so that it can be operated while in a reversed orientation. By producing the clip as a detachable piece, repairs to a picture book become trivial because one can discard the broken clip and simply replace it without needing to discard the entire picture book. Furthermore, this type of paper binding means is ideal for children and the handicapped as the clips can be made of low enough rigidity to enable them to be simply operated, while reducing the odds of accidents resulting from sharp edges or metallic parts. Manufacturing efficiency is increased because the clips and the notebooks can be produced separately and sold disconnected.

  • Patent number: 6082775
Abstract: A counterfeit-resistant document comprises a validation mark with a unique chemical signature that identifies the source of the document. The source of the document can be identified by detecting the unique chemical signature on the validation mark of the document, thus verifying the authenticity of the document. The unique chemical signature is applied to the document as ink, so that the validation mark provides information. The validation mark is latent in that the color of the coating matches that of the document, but the directional reflective properties of ink is more uniform than that of the document. In this manner, the letters cannot be readily ascertained by viewing them at an angle perpendicular to the surface of the document, but can be readily ascertained by viewing them at an angle different from that perpendicular to the surface of the document.

Abstract: An attachment for a folder includes a handle and a boot attachable to a folder. The boot has a boot recess in which a handle body of the handle is received when the handle is in a retracted position, in which the boot surrounds the handle body. A support member of the handle is attached to the handle body and is movably associated with the boot below the boot surface. Thus, the handle body is retractably extendable from the retracted position to an extended position in which the handle body is spaced from the boot back for enabling grasping of the handle body by a user.
