  • Patent number: 5480606
Abstract: Reverse gating is added to a conventional compression molding machine so that when the molding cavity is filled with material in excess of the amount required to mold a part, the material flows from the cavity to a pressure chamber to be vented. Pressure in the chamber allows back flow of the material from the chamber to the molding cavity during cooling to compensate for shrinkage.

  • Patent number: 5481417
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to realize a DTF control in a wide frequency range and a noiseless high-speed replay at several tens of times the normal relay speed without degradation of picture quality. It is also an object to provide an optimum contact between the head and the tape at all times by performing the tension control with high precision and in wide frequency range.A pair of supply side stationary pins 10a.sub.1, 10a.sub.2 and a supply side movable pin 9a driven by a supply side tape actuator 11a are provided on the magnetic tape supply side of the head cylinder that has a rotary head H. By controlling the supply side tape actuator 11a to move the movable pin 9a, the tension of the magnetic tape T at the head cylinder can be controlled. When the tape is replayed at speed different from the recording speed, the supply side tape actuator 11a and a takeup side tape actuator are operated differentially from each other to perform a good tracking.

  • Patent number: 5480953
Abstract: Disclosed is a hydrophilic material characterized in that the material comprises a copolymer composed of a monomer (A) having a polyalkylene oxide unit and a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond in its molecule, a methacrylic ester monomer or an acrylic ester monomer (B) and a monomer (C) having a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond other than the monomers (A) and (B), and the content of the monomer (C) is not less than 5% by weight and not more than 90% by weight, and a semipermeable membrane made therefrom. The present invention provides a hydrophilic material which can be dissolved in a solvent, can be easily formed and is excellent in antithrombotic and antifouling properties, and further provides an antithrombotic material and a semipermeable membrane. These materials can be appropriately used in the medical field and as water-absorbent and antifouling materials.

  • Patent number: 5481074
Abstract: A computer keyboard with multiple rows of cantilevered keys which are flexibly attached to first common mounting strips. The keyboard also has multiple rows of cantilevered sub-members flexibly attached to second common mounting strips, with the sub-members being aligned beneath associated keys. The cantilevered sub-members are in sliding contact with their associated cantilevered keys and induce a tactile "break over" sensation as the associated cantilevered keys are depressed. Each sub-member is designed to actuate a switch contact as the cantilevered key is depressed, whereby the computer keyboard can be constructed without a dome sheet.

  • Patent number: 5479800
Abstract: A key lock mechanism which can be made entirely of molded plastic parts having (1) a lock shell that can be snap fit in a mounting opening, wherein the shell is a predominantly cylindrical casing having a front end, a rear end, and an interior longitudinal channel; and (2) a lock plug, having a front end and a rear end, longitudinally housed within and rotatable about the longitudinal axis of the shell. The front end of the lock plug has a keyway allowing the insertion of a key to operate a double-acting, bar tumbler having a rocker body with a front peg and rear peg; an integral axle perpendicular to and connecting the center rocker body to a left and a right pivot pad upon which the bar tumbler pivots. The insertion of the key pivots the bar tumbler within the longitudinal shell channel and enables the key to turn the plug within the shell to operate the lock. The rear end of the plug receives a snap on actuation means such as a cam.

  • Patent number: 5480776
Abstract: A method for detecting the onset of labor in a patient, which comprises analyzing a body fluid of the patient for estriol concentration; correlating the concentration with a standard value; and relating a higher concentration of estriol relative to the standard value as an indication of potential onset of pre-term labor. The standard is usually selected from the group consisting of (1) a predetermined range of estriol concentrations for the body fluid in normal pregnant humans at a preselected time relative to normal, full-term delivery, or (2) a previously measured estriol concentration of the same body fluid of the same pregnant human. Use of this method does not require determination of an estriol/progesterone concentration ratio in the body fluid being test.
