  • Patent number: 4055867
Abstract: A mattress having an upper fluid containing chamber and a lower chamber filled with a material rendering it effectively more rigid and which surrounds a portion of the fluid chamber. The mattress is comprised of upper and lower flexible sheets which are provided with peripherally extending downwardly and upwardly struck flaps, respectively, at their outer peripheral ends. These flaps are sealed to each other in order to form a completely enclosed mattress. A tapered, angularly struck inner peripheral wall extends effectively between the upper and lower walls of the mattress in such manner that the upper end of the inner peripheral wall extends to the outer peripheral margin of the upper wall and the lower end of the inner peripheral wall terminates inwardly of the outer peripheral margin of the lower wall. In this way, the inner peripheral wall operates in conjunction with the upper wall in order to form an inner fluid chamber which is essentially coextensive with the entire upper surface of the upper wall.

  • Patent number: 4053957
Abstract: A multi-layered mattress for straightening a reclining body including a lower layer which has a support engaging bottom surface and a generally planar top surface. An upper layer which has a bottom surface engaging the top surface of the lower layer and a top, body supporting surface. The resiliency of the material in the upper layer is greater than that of the lower layer. First and second ribs of less resiliency than the upper layer extend transversely across and upwardly from the upper surface of the lower layer into complementary recesses in the bottom surface of the upper layer. The first and second ribs are positioned to support the shoulders and the buttocks of one lying on the mattress.

  • Patent number: 4044411
Abstract: A portable folding crib housed in a suitcase or similar piece of luggage is disclosed. In the basic embodiment, the crib-suitcase combination is so constructed that a majority of the total volume of the suitcase is preserved as two compartments for storing the crib mattress, clothing, and the like. Each of the two compartments is covered by a separate hinged door, the two doors forming the floor of the crib when the crib is erected. The crib structure when folded fits around the storage compartments which are covered by the hinged doors. When folded and closed, the structure has the appearance of an ordinary suitcase and is as readily transportable as the average packed suitcase. To utilize the crib, one fully opens the suitcase and unfolds the crib into its erected position. No mechanical skill or special tools are necessary to unfold or refold the crib. In addition to the basic embodiment, several additional embodiments of the invention are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4038712
Abstract: A mattress includes a first bag forming a first cavity and being disposed within a second bag of substantially the same size. Each of the bags includes a pair of generally flat portions connected at a peripheral edge. Two separate continuous lap seams join the bags inwardly of their edge portions on opposite sides of the bags. These seams define with the edge portions of the bags a second cavity which is disposed around the first cavity. The first cavity can be filled with water to form a water mattress and the second cavity can be filled with air to form a peripheral air frame. In a preferred method, the mattress can be formed from four vinyl sheets of the same size using only four horizontal lap seams. The first bag can be provided with an inner peripheral lap seam by removing a ground rod associated with a heat sealer through a water valve. The second bag can be provided with an external peripheral seam by removing the ground rod through an air valve.

  • Patent number: 4027344
Abstract: A portable energy conserving bed warming device is provided, designed to store heat and to permit its gradual radiation over an extended period of time. The device is placed at the foot of the bed, under the bed covers, and radiates heat to warm the bed and provide for comfortable sleeping in cold weather. It includes a hollow container made of a heat conductive material to provide a reservoir for heated fluid. The fluid is placed in the container and heated, following which the container is closed. The container is snugly enclosed within a hollow heat insulating casing closed on all sides except for a plurality of selectively disposed openings in the front wall. The openings in the casing permit heat radiating from the heated fluid in the reservoir to pass slowly into the ambient atmosphere, thereby warming the bed in which the device is placed.

  • Patent number: 4024591
Abstract: In a collapsible bed making device, a pair of frame supports is affixed to the head side of a bed. A collapsible bed spread frame and a collapsible blanket frame are mounted pivotally on the frame supports. A bed spread is removably affixed to the collapsible bed spread frame. A blanket is removably affixed to the collapsible blanket frame. In order to prepare a bed, incorporating the bed making device of the invention for use, the bed spread frame with the bed spread is rotated upward more than 90.degree. and left in that position. In order to prepare said bed for non-use, the blanket frame with the blanket is rotated upward and downward. Then the bed spread frame with the bed spread is rotated downward to a horizontal position.
